What about changing dashboard.php and erase i.e. “Other WordPress News”, “Plugins” etc. ?

That would change the dashboard for every user, right? And upadating WordPress wouldn’t be a nightmare since the only thing I have to do is possibly change dashboard.php again!? Would that be a possibiliy or am I thinking the complete wrong way?

I used categories at the beginning but the problem was that always the most recent posts were featured then. The problem is that I don’t add posts in some featured categories very often thus the section would show always the same posts. Thats why I was wondering if there is a way to automatically display different posts out of a specific category every day?

Mmh … first of all thanks a lot for your answers. I have been checking out both links but I am still not sure if that is what I need. Because I don’t really want to be responsible for creating the forms for each author. The best would be if they could do that on their own. But one question that might solve my problem:

In the admin panel under “Your profil” each author is able to write some information down. Currently only the biographical info is visible to the visitors when they click on the authors name above the article. Is there any way to make the contact information visible too (or let the author choose whether to publish it or not?)
