same problem for me, the xml looks correct but posts have no tags, categories are fine

as someone mentioned elsewhere a good idea is to perform the import on a local install, then export to sql from there

i had to split the xml into 46 smaller xml files, when the import screen times out and stops loading just hit reload and send data and it will continue on, took several hours but it worked

however, i notice that posts no longer have tags, is this a bug in the import? any solutions to this?

godaddy couldn’t help me at all

i broke the file down into 46 smaller files and imported them individually, reloading the import page whenever it timed out, so eventually i got it finished

however, none of the posts have any tags anymore, the tags are all there and the posts are all there, but there is no correlation, looks like a bug?

solved by splitting file in 47 small xml files using a script and then uploading each. if the import screen times out, hit reload and send data again and it will skip by the completed items and continue importing the rest of the file.

also, my timeout seems to be very fast, i have broken down my XML file into about 200-300 small xml files which each have about 40 ‘items’ in them, but still each of these will timeout sometimes so there must be something very wrong that I just don’t understand. I have no idea what to do ??

As far as the others, I’ve tried making all the edits without any luck. But the changes to .htaccess cause all sites on the host to stop working, so I wasn’t able to use those.

Also on that page I saw this:

struggling with the same problem, my original xml export is 11MB which wordpress chokes on, i used the splitter linked above which works fine, the problem is that there is a lot of data and a lot of attachments and wordpress seems to timeout if each xml file has more than 30 items, although sometimes it just completely doesn’t work. basically it looks like i will need to import 200 individual xml files? uhhhh i hope not ?? i’ve tried changing .htaccess, php.ini, defining wordpress memory in wp-config, commenting out wordpress timeout in wp-admin/import/wordpress.php and haven’t had any luck. i’m on godaddy and have asked for support but aren’t getting any help on this.

From an SEO perspective, I don’t see it being beneficial to have links in high visibility going to categories that aren’t associated with that post, but I’m not sure really.

@henkholland Firstly, to respond to the extra click in navigation, I don’t see that being too disruptive, it doesn’t make sense to link to everything on your site from each post just so that it doesn’t take 2 clicks to get there in my mind, just my opinion. Also, the way you describe navigating a site, I’m not sure how typical that is?

@wizardregis, i think you’re right, must be just for consistency I guess, seems like one of those things that’s always been done a certain way

there was a server issue this morning, it’s resolved now

it only occurs occasionally unfortunately, so it’s difficult to test, must be a fb problem i guess
