Hi Juan,
The site now just shows a message to say that a Critical Error has occurred (among other things). The people at lcn.com, my host, are looking at it and have promised to update/replace all the plugins and the PHP version, and to get it working again as a priority.
The critical issues started when I installed Code Snippets, I recall. I never actually got to try the code you provided for me. Code Snippets prevented access to any sort of wp-admin.
Thanks for your help in all this.
David
Hi Juan,
I’m running Word Press 5.9.1
Bad news I’m afraid. The site is now completely broken, and I’ve contacted my host (lcn) for some support.
I tried Code Snippets, but it threw up some errors and stopped the site from loading.
I then deleted and reinstalled Events Calendar and Events Payments, tried to set them up again and https://www.abingdonpassionplay.co.uk broke.
Do you have any more thoughts on how I could get it up and running – and readable – again?
Many thanks,
David
Hi Juan,
I’m happy to have a go, but I’m rather a novice at coding. Where do find the functions.php file, and how exactly can I access it to change the code?
Many thanks,
David
Hi Juan
I’m with lcn.com. I know they offer Word press hosting as a package, but I’m not using it. I installed a copy of WordPress from their Business Hosting site. I don’t know if they perform any actions of the sort you describe.
Should I remove Event Tickets plugin and reinstall it? Or is there any code I can insert somewhere to make it work?
Kind regards,
David

In reply to: Automatic upgrading failed; Manual upgrade loses siteThank you! I did exactly as you recommended and the site now works as before. Thank you for the huge amount of time and effort everyone has made to get this resolved.

In reply to: Automatic upgrading failed; Manual upgrade loses siteAll now backed up, deleted and replaced. Same error message on every page of the site.
I discovered some ‘loose’ files on the public-html folder, including word-settings.php’, copies them to my hard drive, and deleted them on the remote site. At that point the site refused me any access at all with a “Forbidden..” message. I transferred all the loose files back again into the Public-html folder and am now back to square one, with the Fatal Error message.
How do I update any of these loose files?

In reply to: Automatic upgrading failed; Manual upgrade loses siteI’ve now backed up my wp-content folder and my SQL database to my Mac’s desktop, using FileZilla, downloaded a fresh copy of the latest WordPress and am in the process of deleting everything in the public-html folder on the remote server.
The plan is to build it all back up again, folder by folder.
I can’t see “wp-settings.php” or any loose files in my Remote site window (top right of Filezilla) Interestingly, the wp-content folder includes an upgrade folder which has duplicate wp-admin, wp-content and w-includes folders nested inside it. Might these replicated folders be confusing the php in some way?

In reply to: Automatic upgrading failed; Manual upgrade loses siteNo, I did not. I cannot see any other “loose” files outside the four directories in that public_html directory.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Automatic upgrading failed; Manual upgrade loses siteOn the remote site, the directory above is called public_html. It has only 4 directories visible: wp-admin (which I have replaced), wp-content (which I did not touch), wp-docs (which I did not touch) and wp-includes (which I replaced).
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Automatic upgrading failed; Manual upgrade loses siteAs instructed I deleted the two directories called wp-admin and wp-includes, and replaced them with downloaded directories. I deleted nothing from wp-content. As far as I recall, there were no other directories visible to transfer across.
