When you say dashboard, which area exactly?
On your media gallery, right click and choose “open image in a new tab” and check what the path is.

https://localhost/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/cakebox11.png
If you do not have too many images, I recommend re-uploading them and assigning them again.
If that also does not fix the issue, we will look further.

They all provide the software that you need to install WordPress (and any other tool that uses the same software).
WordPress recommends PHP + MySQL for installation. Your server also needs Apache (web server). XAMPP, WAMP and Bitnami, help you set up this environment easily, instead of downloading all components separately and going through individual installation steps.
For more detailed information, I recommend reading the respective Wikipedia pages!
