    Hi there,
I’m marking this one as resolved, since everything indicates that the problem is directly related to not using up-to-date PHP version. Using PHP 5.4 or higer fixes this problem.

    Kind regards,
    Daniel Wroblewski

    Hello,
My plugin requires at least PHP 5.4. 99% you have version 5.3 or lower. PHP 5.3 is not longer supported by PHP team and it is no longer safe to use PHP 5.3. Please contact your hosting provider and tell them you need at least PHP 5.4. They will update it within couple of minutes without any extra charge for you. You should also be able to do it yourself in your admin panel (such as cPanel or DirectAdmin), but this option is not always made available by hosting providers.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,
    Daniel Wroblewski

    Hello,
The plugin requires PHP 5.4 or later. You are probably using PHP 5.3 or older – this is the only reason that could be causing a fatal error. Please update your PHP – contact your hosting provider and tell them you need at least PHP 5.4. PHP 5.4 is the oldest still supported PHP version; 5.3 has not been supported for a year already and it is not safe to use it any more.

After you update your PHP and verify it works, I would be grateful if you would change your rating. If you experience any problems, please post them on Support forum, not Reviews forum. I believe you cannot reliably review something if you haven’t tested it. And if you cannot test it, it should be posted in Support forum not Reviews forum.

And on a side note – this kind of reviews are really hurtful for developers. We spend our time developing plugins for free for the whole community to use and it is just unfair to rate them 1-star just because there is some incompatibilty with your environment. As you can see, more than 900 people are using the plugin right now and they don’t have any problems, which shows that the plugin works and it is not a standard behaviour that it causes fatal error. Please respect the work of others, especially those who work for free to create tools for the whole community to use. It is not possible to create a plugin working in every environment, but it is possible to constantly make it better by a collaborative work between developers and users; and not by giving 1-star ratings.

So please, after you update your PHP, please review your rating. And if there are any problems, use the forum which is intended for these purposes – Support, not Reviews. You can always contact me directly via email: [email protected]

    Kind regards,

    Hello,
This plugin does not display any text to the user. Only settings are written in English. So your users will never see anything in English, only you as an admin will see English text while configuring the plugin.

Unfortunately, plugin is not translatable. I may change that in the future, but currently English settings are hard coded.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

    Hi,
If you have problem with the plugin, please start a Support thread. I think plugins shouldn’t be rated before you actually use them. More than 800 people are using the plugin right now and they don’t have any problem, which shows that the plugin works and it is not standard behaviour that it causes fatal error.

Now, to your problem. It is most likely the result of PHP version. Plugin requires PHP 5.4 or later. You are probably using outdated PHP 5.3, which this plugin does not support. Please upgrade your PHP version to PHP 5.4 or later.

It would be kind of you if you change your rating after testing the plugin.

If you have any more problems with the plugin, please post them on the Support forum, not Rating forum. I usually reply to users’ problems within couple of hours.

    Kind regards,

By default it is the theme that should be controlling the avatar size, so if the avatar is too big, it’s probably because of the theme. Since brit.j has not provided more details on the problem, I am marking this one as resolved. If the problem still occurs, please feel free post more details on the theme here.

    Cheers,
    Dan

    Hi,
I just tested Twitter login with this plugin and it works. You need to set my plugin filter priority to 9 and it works exactly the way it should – uses social avatar if available, and if not – uses first letter avatar.

Remember to click Save changes after changing filter priority.

This has to work, because the social login plugin uses the same filters as my plugin does, so it is not possible that reducing filter priority does not work. If you still experience problems even after reducing the priority, it may has something to do with a cache plugin you are using, or maybe your browser cache.

Please let me know if it worked for you.

I never used this plugin before. Most likely they both hook into the same avatar filter. Go to my plugin settings (Settings > WP First letter Avatar) and experiment with Plugin filter priority option. I suggest setting it to 9 at first – it should do the trick.

    Hello,
The avatar size should be exactly the same as the one it is replacing. If it is not, I would say that your theme probably uses some unusual method to display avatars. Please give me a link to your website, so I can see what’s going on there. You can contact me via email: danielagw.wp AT outlook DOT com

    Cheers,
    Daniel
