My URL is bylonline.com (although you can’t see the problem unless you’re in my WordPress back end)

I am having the same problem – trying to update Akisment from 2.5.9 to 2.6.0. The messages as the update is attempted are as follows:

Removing the old version of the plugin…

Could not remove the old plugin.

Is there anyone out there with a solution for the update. Or is the update available as a separate plugin so the old version can be deleted manually and the new version installed?

Well, that seemed to have done it. I couldn’t replace /public_html/wp-includes/certificates/ca-bundle.crt because I couldn’t delete the old version and I couldn’t overwrite it. But everything seems to be as it should be.

No, I’ll go try than right now

During the FTP I had 6 failed transfers. The information given was

Could not start transfer
/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-upgrader-skins.php
/public_html/wp-includes/date.php
/public_html/wp-includes/js/zxcvbn-async.js
/public_html/wp-includes/certificates/ca-bundle.crt
/public_html/wp-includes/js/zxcvbn-async.min.js
/public_html/wp-includes/js/zxcvbn.min.js

These appear to be the same files that failed when I first tried the automatic upgrade.
