what did you use to upload the wordpress files?

i would say, try uploading the files again.

i do see the html file and no php …

really strange …

oh.. wait this might be the cause .. are you on a UNIX server Windows … you need to have PHP and mySQL installed if using Windoze …

like I said .. I use CuteFTP (https://www.cuteftp.com/cuteftppro/).

Once I have successfully logged in to the site, I right click on the file I want to edit and select edit .. or you can highlight the file and go to the tools or file bar and find edit there .. this will open up a new window in CuteFTP .. and you find the line of code to edit and edit what you need and select save or (CTRL+S) and it is instantly saved ..

best thing i have found is if i make a mistake and need to go back to what I had before, cause I am not the best at editting and sometimes create typos, I just presss CTRL+Z and this takes me back to the code as it was before …

this eliminates the need to download and then upload.

but be minded .. in order to edit the sidebar.php as Dgold described .. you have to CHMOD the sidebar.php via a FTP client such as CuteFTP …

however, if you CHMOD the php files .. beware ..

I would personally just login thru the FTP client and change it there … and save it .. or if you have CONTROL PANEL access to your domain, do it there ..

YES. you can install WP for your friend and have them to only access the WP so they can update and make changes as necessary .. so … let’s say you have https://www.gd4.com/friendsname-blog/index.php .. they would access this folder you have created for them on your website so they can now have their own blog.

to link to the blog from your main site … https://www.gd4.com … just locate the folder you have created and if you have installed it in that folder direct it will be “index.php” – otherwise if you put it in another sub folder, it will be “friendsname-blog/folder name/index.php”

i do not want to release the actual URL yet until me and my ministry/web design/ business partner are ready for our site to go live .. he is currently converting the design into WP ..

are the pages that you currently have in HTML format .. or are you upgrading from a previous verison of WP?

if you are upgrading the links should stay ..

if you are installing WP into the sites root directory and all the pages are HTML .. the links will still be there .. you will just have to copy and paste them into a page or past in WP ..

* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

why have i seen more than my fair share of PPL having problems with Yahoo hosting? it seems that Yahoo is no help when it comes to WP.

if anyone is interested, i will be happy to allocate free space to you guys that are having trouble with Yahoo at no charge …
