new version stopped smushing automatically

    Loaded the latest version and smush is no longer working automatically. When I load an image into the media library, it loads find, and I see a message asking me to mush it. Before the this latest version it would do this automatically and show me the size reduction.

    Settings are correct for automated smushing.

    site is Gardenmyths.com

    Same problem on a second site that has been working correctly. also, I added it to two new sites and they don’t smush automatically either.

    Hello robertpavlis,

    I’m sorry to hear that smushing is not working on your site – I did test now on my site and it was working fine, so I could not replicate this issue.

    can you tell me if smushing images from media library works?

    Do you have single or Multisite installation?

    Can you run plugin conflict test and see if without any other plugins this will start to work?

    It was working and then stopped. It still works in manual mode, in the media library, but needs to be done manually after each picture is loaded.

    I have whatever the download gives me. It is probably single site. I had to add it to each site separately.

    How do you run plugin conflict test?

    @robertpavlis, Sorry for interrupting in between.

    Can you possibly switch your Media Library from Grid Mode to List Mode, and then try uploading a image. And see if the Auto Smush works for you.

    The way I upload images is from inside a post. Use Add media, then select to upload an image. There is no selection for list mode. This method is not working.

    I went to media – library directly, selected list mode, then add new. The new image is marked as ” smushing in progress”, but it never updates the display to say process is finished. If I refresh the screen, the image is marked as being smushed.

    The smush comment for an image is also wrong now. It used to show the total number smushed. Now each image says that only 4 or 5 have been smushed.

    For the latest image it says “4 images reduced by 1.2 KB ( 1.7% )
    Image Size: 36.1 KB”

    For the previous image it says “4 images reduced by 1.9 KB ( 2.2% )
    Image Size: 58.4 KB”

    same to me, last update broke automated smushing. I’m on a multisite network.

    I tested that method and on my site autosmushing work fine also that way.

    To run plugin conflict please disable all the others plugins you have on your site and then try to upload image in way it wont work now and see if it start to work. if it will, then you have to enable each plugin and test again smushing until it stops working. Then you will have a culprit plugin.

    yes, that is how it shows now. That message there is correct:

    It shows all the sizes that were smushed for each image.

    Yeah, because with the latest version the Smushing happens in the background to avoid the delay in image uploading while the image is being smushed, and hence the status gets updated only after the page is refreshed.

    Also, when you add a new image from Edit Post screen, the image does gets smushed, in the background, it’s just that we need to add the message “Smushing in progress..” in that screen. We’ve already added the message in upcoming release, it’s being tested, so should be out in few days.

    You can still switch back to old method by setting define('WP_SMUSH_ASYNC', false); in your theme/plugins functions.php or wp-config.php, if you prefer the earlier method.
