OK. So I’ve updated everything and now it works. It’s very strange that I uploaded an image about 2 weeks ago without any problems. Then, without me doing anything else to the web site, I tried to upload another image and ran into problems.
Anyway, I have one other small issue and I’m guessing there is a setting somewhere that I need to change. For the last 2 images that I have added to this gallery, the thumbnail is a different size to all the other previously added images. Also, when I try to edit the thumb, the outline for the size won’t drag to the full size of the image. (Apologies if this isn’t the correct terminology but I’m a carpenter, not an IT man).
Thanks for all the help guys.
@photocrati – I wasn’t sure how to remove index.php from the permalinks (as I said, I’m a carpenter and also in my 6th decade so I struggle a bit with IT). However, I noticed that “Default” doesn’t have index.php so I set the Permalinks to that. Lo and behold, it all now works!
So basically, the solution was to set the Permalinks to “Default” and not to some other setting.
I’ve no idea why this worked – I’ll leave the explanation to those who are more knowledgeable. There may be some other solution but this fixed it for me so I’m happy.
Many thanks for your help. I’ll leave it a day or two then mark this post as “Resolved”.
Could really use some help or advice with this please.
@photocrati – Hi and thanks for taking the time.
I checked the Permalinks settings and they were already set to “Post Name” giving me “/index.php/%postname%/ in the little box at the bottom. I cleared the image cache again. Interestingly, clicking on a thumbnail in the gallery now works. i.e I get to see the larger image. However, clickin on the “Show as slideshow” button still results in the 404 error withe extra “/index.php” appearing in the url. Also, clicking next or a pager number in the gallery view still does nothing so I am only able to view the first (in this case 40) thumbnails. I tried setting the number of thumbnails per page to 0 which gave me one big page but about thre quarters of the way down, the images were a bit jumbled with gaps between them. Hope that helps.
