In reply to: Screen Options – check box to display IDsHi Justin
Thanks, but that’s php code, right? I’m not a programmer – I use WordPress, themes and plugins as building blocks – I piece things together without modifying code.
In some instances, my clients (who are less technically able than I am) would need to know IDs (to exclude/include them with some plugins e.g. pro-categories-widget).
A simple switch in the Screen Options would allow IDs to be seen as required, and turned off to save screen space.
Just a simple usability feature …

In reply to: Welcome to WordPress comment contains malware?Okay … so deleted the code for the Comment-Content in the DB.
Now when I view the comment, I’m able to select the Move to Trash option, and I can get to the Dashboard too.
So, I assume this was some sort of vulnerability in WP 3.3.1 that allowed the comment to be added, but I can’t work out the purpose of just preventing it’s deletion.
Ideas on a postcard.
Maybe this will help someone else. Thanks

In reply to: Welcome to WordPress comment contains malware?Hi wslade
Still no sign site has been hacked or damaged (WordFence gives it clean bill of health apart from old core and plugin versions).
So, don’t understand how the ‘Welcome to WordPress’ comment arrived, or what the code in it is doing … apart from preventing the comment’s deletion.
In the absence of any advice on what to do with the comment, I’m going to edit the DB to remove the code, and see where that takes me.
In 5 years (and over 100 sites) we’ve never had a hack … largely thanks due to the diligence of our hosting company (5QuidHosts in Scotland), and our userid & password security.

In reply to: Welcome to WordPress comment contains malware?I’ve checked the server for file changes (none found), and Sucuri says the site’s okay (apart from WordPress being out of date).
What about the stuff in the comment – should I delete it directly from the db?

In reply to: [Polylang] Polylang & Headway Themes – issue with Single Post layout… Actually, would full admin access to the development site help?

Okay … what can you do to help?

In reply to: [Polylang] Polylang & Headway Themes – issue with Single Post layoutHi
Apologies for bumping this, but I haven’t been able to fix it by changing settings within Polylang.
Have you contacted Headway Support yet? Their mailbox is support, and their domain is mentioned above. I’ve been speaking to Jamie V at Headway.
They’ve offered a copy of the theme for testing, and they’re always happy to work with others to overcome difficulties.
Many thanks, David

Tried that – unchecked all the sync boxes – has not fixed the problem.
What next?

In reply to: [Polylang] polylang compatible with headway theme?Hi IvyL
Nearly completed … generally Polylang and Headway work well together. I’ve one problem to overcome … currently in discussion with Headway Support about it.
I’ll report back when I know more.

In reply to: [Polylang] polylang compatible with headway theme?Hi IvyL
I’m in the process of adding Polylang to a Headway site, and so far everything is fine.
Let me know if you’d like to discuss/see the site when I’m a little further with it (about a week, I should think).

In reply to: Thoughts on WordPress version 4.0Oh dear … not a proper new version then, just more of the same.

In reply to: Thoughts on WordPress version 4.0django013 is right … while WP could continue on its incremental add/modify progress (3.10, 3.11, 3.12 … you get the picture), v4 needs to be root and branch whole product review.
I don’t mean it has to be re-written, but the product needs to be repositioned in the world of CMSs, and take on some of the workflow elements which separate it it from what corporate IT folk see as ‘real CMSs’. Not least because the other CMS products haven’t stood still.
I’ve had numerous feedback comments end with ‘well you can use a plugin for that’, but plugins (and themes) come and go … so many of those I used when I started with WordPress 3 years ago have either disappeared completely or haven’t been updated in several years. It isn’t the reliable foundation for a lasting WordPress site that clients expect.
Yes, I know WordPress is a blogging platform and many of the users are not businesses, but I’m convinced that mix has been changing towards more business orientation even though I’ve never seen any stats about users and sites. With 20%+ of all new sites on WordPress, it has to be business which is driving the increase.

In reply to: Thoughts on WordPress version 4.0All our clients want some interaction with their social media channels, so that sounds like a good idea Marcus. I’ve tried JetPack in the past, but didn’t get on with it, and I’ve read many reports that it is big and slow.
About two-thirds of our clients blog (for content & SEO), but fewer allow comments – it is difficult to control effectively. We recently advised a non-client about anti-spam measures after she’d accumulated 20,000 spam comments in under two weeks – this sort of protection should be built in!

In reply to: Thoughts on WordPress version 4.0Yes … and I’ve looked through the ‘handbook for contributors’ section … nothing about contributing ideas and suggestions.
There must be something somewhere!
