In reply to: URGENT HELP – website crash on opening day!Problem solved. The problem was with the Dreamhost server. Here is part of the email from their tech support staff. I fixed the problem before I got their email. THANK YOU again for the help!
…it looks like we’ve cleared up the problem with
eatallaboutit.com. We’ve found that there was an issue with the
permissions on wp-config.php files not being set correctly on a few
servers. The wp-config.php files were stored within user directories such as *** and look to be part of a problem with advanced installs.
However, we’ve addressed the permissions problem and eatallaboutit.com is now working on the browser. The problem with the permissions doesn’t look to have been caused by you
as it was more a server side issue. Nevertheless, please try viewing
eatallaboutit.com and let us know if there’s still a problem.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: URGENT HELP – website crash on opening day!Well, my server was ultimately not on the “out-of-order” list.
I changed my permission to rw-r–r–, and it’s up and working. THANK YOU!The golden question: how did this happen? I never looked at the permissions (they were the default), it was working last night, and this morning they were wrong. This can’t happen again.

In reply to: URGENT HELP – website crash on opening day! Thanks for the help. I found this on our host support website, once I began searching into host issues. This was posted 2 1/2 hours ago:
“We apologize for the inconvenience this morning – a number of sites have gone down because their associated apache server died. Fortunately the fix is easy (we are restarting all of the apaches now) but we still do not have the cause determined (we believe it is related to changes in log rotation). We’ll update this post once we have more details”

In reply to: URGENT HELP – website crash on opening day! This sounds the same, and apparently was a host problem?:

In reply to: URGENT HELP – website crash on opening day!So,
I am hosting with Dreamhost, and did their installation. I do not think I changed any permissions after the install, and I know that I didn’t get asked about or approve any permission changes from any plugin.Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: URGENT HELP – website crash on opening day! That doesn’t sound good… I’m still digging through the forums for a solution to the current problem.
