  • I added
    if (!isset($cat)) {
    $cat = “X”;
    }
    to the recommended location at the top of index.php and it works beautifully BUT it causes a big delay in almost all of my WordPress pages loading.
    There is only one post I am trying not to display and it is being updated every day (and I change the timestamp) but I just don’t want it to display other than a direct link to the page. If there is a faster way to do this and get my post #270 to NOT show up, I’d like to know… if not, this is [hopefully] a temporary solution and will only cause me to find a better solution quickly!

    How would two different wordpress installs work? Would they need to be in different subdomains or would subdirectories be enough? Could you use the same MySQL database? What about cookies from each WP install… would they get mixed up?
    Sorry for all the questions. I just thing the photoblog Chaplin has is SOOooooo cool.

    Just left a comment on your site… but I love the photoblog part of your site! Fantastic!

    I am leery of trying it now that you tried without success, shadow. I can’t get access to my website’s cpanel from work or I’d try it right now just to see if it works. I’ll probably experiment with it this weekend.

    Think I found it in this person’s thread in their personal blog. Will update when I try their suggestion.

    okay, niente is a saint. She explained how in her blog on her site. Thanks, niente!

    Yes, please share!!!! I have been looking for a way to do that for like half a year!

    That’s a bit more complicated than what I’m after. I would just like a page of titles (as links to the particular entry they represent… and dates would be nice, too) to come up instead of the entire every-single-entry-ever-written-in-that-category coming up.

    wow, that was an explosion of responses!
    Hope some of them help!

    The information you are looking to change would need to be changed in the stylesheet that your index.php refers to… so, yes, that would be in the wp-layout.css file in this case. The reason you can’t seem to find anything that would resemble it is most likely because that information may not be listed in the css and therefore it will be the default for however a viewer’s particular browser would interpret the link tags. In order to get the links to appear how you want them, add the information to the wp-layout.css file and re-save or upload the file with your new information. This is a great place to start if you need to look for css resources.

    QUOTE:

    The ability to display posts by Title, linked to the individual post is of great advantage when users would log to simply browse the site, and review information that looks interesting. As an example, movie reviews. If an entire category is dedicate to movie reviews, wherien each post is the review of a particular movie. Scrolling through a list of titles is much easier than scrolling through an entire text dump of the category.
    Usability, for all sites is important.

    I agree 100% and am looking for HOW to do this with WP! If anyone could point me in the direction of HOW, I’d appreciate it… I have done searches and am currently combing the hacks part of the WP forum for information, but I don’t understand much of it. Here’s the site I found that has inspired me to try the same approach (specifically for the photos!!!) Dooce.com but dooce.com uses MT… I know WP has GOT to be able to do what MT does!

    I just thought of something: I just imported my BLOGGER posts today and I haven’t had time to update all the images tags to adjust for the different location, so some of the older posts’ images may not show up until I go in and fix ’em.

    within your blue footer bar (which is in the middle of the page right now… you could get it at the bottom with a div style=”clear:both” tag) in the saying “powered by WordPress,” the “WordPress” is the same color blue until you hover over it… then it turns white. I had this same issue until I found it in the CSS and changed the color.

    Ahhh… yes, getting warmer! This is precisely the information I was looking for… now onto learning enough of php to get the look I’m going for. THANK YOU for that link, WillM! I am still pretty confused, but give me a few more days and I might have had time to focus my confusion into a question or two. Thanks again.
