Hey.
I’ve talked to my host and it seems that some of the server IPs were blocked in my htaccess file. They’ve fixed it, and now it looks like it’s finally working.
Thanks for all your help!
Hey,
Thanks, but sadly neither of the solutions worked.
I’ve disabled/re-activated the Extra Sidebar Widgets module. Hours later, nothing was updated.
Now I’ve installed the WP Crontrol plugin and ran a cronjob for:
jetpack_display_posts_widget_cron_update
I even got this message:
“Successfully executed the cron event Jetpack_display_posts_widget_cron_update”
But nothing’s been updated in the widget.
However, the WP Crontrol also displays a permanent red bar that reads:
“There was a problem spawning a call to the WP-Cron system on your site. This means WP-Cron events on your site may not work. The problem was: Unexpected HTTP response code: 403”
Hey csonnek,
Thanks for checking. I’ve now cleared cache once again AND disabled the WP Fastest Cache plugin. I went back into the widget and retyped “https://gimmegist.com/” into the Blog URL line.
Still the same thing.
I’ve also checked the GimmeGist feed earlier and can also see that the feed is not the problem – it shows the latest posts.
So it’s really a mystery that seems to come down to that specific “Display WordPress Posts” widget.
Anything else I can try? (the caching plugin is still disabled as we do this.)
Thanks,
DanielHi Jeremy,
I’ve narrowed this down to specifically Jetpack Comments. After turning the Jetpack Comments off, both people who previously had problems could leave a comment. Once I turned it back on, the problem reappeared. It seems to be affecting only frequent commenters using WordPress logins.
The thing is, it’s worked flawlessly before. I have had Jetpack Comments on since the day they were available, and I’ve had the same hosting provider and plan for at least two years.
Could this be related to the latest Jetpack update?
Thanks,
DanielPS: The Jetpack Comments are currently off on my blog.

In reply to: [MailChimp Forms by MailMunch] You do not have a list on MailChimpI have the exact same problem.
The first thing that happens once I install the plugin is that it says “Connecting to MailChimp.” I’m not given the option to select my MailChimp account credentials. It just refreshes and shows the “connected” green checkmark and tells me I have no lists.
There is no option for me to see my MailChimp account and sign in.

In reply to: [Customizr] Monthly archives redirect to front pageDone. I’ve deactivated all plugins, and the monthly archives still redirected to the front page. (I have reactivated the plugins now.)
I can only assume that there’s a setting that was either affected (and left unchanged) by a previous plugin, or that it’s somehow due to the fact that I’m using straight permalinks (instead of ones that include the month). Although I’m not sure if the second assumption is realistic.

In reply to: [Customizr] Monthly archives redirect to front pageHi, thanks. I’ve actually seen that suggestion somewhere earlier, and I have tried that. No luck, unfortunately.
There could be either some setting left over from an older plugin or one of the active ones that enforces this redirect, but I currently have no idea what it might be.

In reply to: [Customizr] Monthly archives redirect to front pageThanks for checking!
I have tried disabling a number of plugins, like the SEO Yoast, iThemes Security…but no luck.
I’ll see if I can identify the culprit.
Thanks Jeremy. I saw your test comment.
Sorry to double-post, I’ve actually just received a response from another Happiness Engineer to a support email I’ve sent with this same question a few days ago. He also could comment.
But oddly enough, the person who is helping me test this, can’t. And it’s not limited to a browser, but seems to be her specific account. When using email/name to identify herself, she can comment no problem, but when using Facebook account, it always fails.
She has tried three different browser/device combinations:
iPhone4 with Safari
MacBook Pro with Chrome
PC with FirefoxIn each of the three cases, even when using a fresh browser, it gets to “Submitting comment” message and gets stuck there.
I can try to get some other people to test this, but it sure sounds odd.
Thanks again,

In reply to: Blocking RobotsHi Justin,
Thank you so much for such a thorough response. I shall try the plugin, since it seems to be the easiest and most complete way to deal with this!
Best, Daniel
Hi Jeremy,
The button is now behaving fine on my side (Google Chrome), but one of the visitors mentioned she only saw it stuck on “loading” when using Firefox, but it was fine when she switched to IE.
Any ideas on what else could be tried? Or is this something that may just get fixed in the future releases?
Daniel
Hi Jeremy,
Here’s the screenshot of what I’ve found after enabling script debugging (which did not fix the problem):
https://gyazo.com/6ff6c0373fcba41f97e32da7e82e046a
Tested on latest Chrome browser.
Does the above mean that I’m actually the only one who experiences the “like button” loading problem, seeing how I’m the only site administrator and don’t have any users logging in?
Thanks a lot for your help,
DanielThanks Jeremy.
Thing is I have had WordPress SEO and Jetpack together for a long time and this issue only started occurring recently.
It sounds like the FB bug you mention must be the culprit. Thanks for linking it!
Hi Jeremy,
I have switched off the use of meta tags in the SEO plugin. Unfortunately, the above issue still remains.
Is there anything else I can try to fix it?
Thanks a lot,
Daniel
