In reply to: Should I use Multisite?Pardon me Epstein.
How does Custom Post Type serve my purpose? As far as my limited knowledge is concerned,Custom Post Type could help me if:
*I could have two Standard post types (say, standard-1 and standard-2) AND
*if there is a way to display all posts using one Custom Post type in a dynamic page.Am I right/ or did I miss something?

In reply to: Should I use Multisite?Thank you very much Epstein, we appreciate your effort to inform us the fundamentals and let us decide by ourselves.
However, your take/judgement is equally important for me and others. Thus, let me pose one quick question:
* All things considered, for a site mainly run by one Admin(with others having very little familiarity with WP), do you advise making two WP installations rather than MU?Thank you.

In reply to: Should I use Multisite?Hello Mika Epstein,
I read your post titled “do not use Multisite” and I would like to pose one issue that you might have overlooked or I failed to understand.
Yes, I don’t want the users on the MultiSite doing anything ecept posting articles. However, don’t you think the following categorization problem makes WPMU a necessity?
Imagine:
* A site that has news and blog posts, which needs to be presented as distinctly as possible (since news items maintain some sort of standard, while blog posts are of varying quality)*That site consists posts in two languages.
* Of course, items will have to be segregated by category and sub-category based on their subject-matter/topic.
NOW, if this site is going to be on a single WP installation all the three things will have to be accomplished through category, sub-category and sub-sub-category alone.
For example: A post in English language, which is a news and covering terrorism will have to be assigned to Example.com/category/English/news/terrorism
In the same manner, an English blog post on terrorism would be
Example.com/category/English/blogs/terrorismYou may still insist this is better than the complications of WPMU.
However,
1/WP doesn’t allow similar slug for subcategories even if they belong to different parent categories. That means the actual url of category pages would be lengthy and less attractive than those in my examples2/WP doesn’t allow(or I think) to create and use more than one dynamic pages that can be used as alternative front pages. That means there will be only one front page with all sorts posts from the site on it.
3/The category pages – atleast those I saw so far – are simply a list and do not have the versatility to be used as a “home page” of some sections.(I may err here, for lack of knowledge on the limits of customization).
Dear Epstein,
These are not idle questions. They kept me in dilemma for almost two months. I would be grateful if you would suggest ways to accomplish these things without using WPMU (creating subsites)Thank you very much.

In reply to: Can WP.org help me with site redirects? To make the trial, as you suggested, do I not need to delete or make-private the current site? (the site from which I intend to do the redirect ultimately)?
If so, I would like to hear from experts or other users before taking that final step. (Because the current site is active and working)
P.s.- By SEO, I want to say search engines.

In reply to: [WP Frontpage News] Fatal errorWhat about MultiSite? Does it create fatal error? In case that is the prob with mine.
Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Can WP.org help me with site redirects? It seems “simple 301 redirect” plugin solves my issue, as its description purports to be “an easy method of redirecting requests to another page on your site or elsewhere on the web. It’s especially handy when you migrate a site to WordPress and can’t preserve your URL structure.”
Therefore, I think I can do as follows:
1/Using WordPress.com’s redirect function, I can redirect the currentsite.com to a subdomain on the newsite.com.
2/Then, using the plugin, I can redirect the posts/categories from the subdomain.newsite.com to the relevant subdirectories on the newsite.com
Am I right? Or missing something?
How come nobody suggested this method? Would it affect SEO?Thank you.

In reply to: Two WPMU, what's the draw?Ok. Let me put it this way:
Are there any plugins that enable bridging the two networks? (so that they share users, subscribers and categories and tags)

One last question – a related one:
Can you suggest me a good material on the pros and cons of running WP from a sub-directory? I found two, but they are brief and do not look authoritative.Thank you.

In reply to: Help on Giving WordPress its own directoryThank you Sloyer for your fast reply.
I appreciate it.Let me pose follow-up questions (if I should get those from my web-host, tell me so)
1/ Where is my “main directory”? All I know is, MySql, databases, ftp files. Unless you are referring to the php files?
3/Is there a single location where my WP installs are stored?
*Last I checked (during my previous trials/exercises with WP), I got access to .htaccess file. In fact, my host told me I got full control.
Thanx again.

In reply to: Can WP.org help me with site redirects?Thanx for your prompt reply:
What I wanted is to redirect backlinks pointing to my current blog/site hosted by WordPress.com in the following manner:
(let me call it: currentsite.com b/c I purchased custom domain months ago there is no “wordpress” on the url).currentsite.com/category/news/ TO newsite.com/news
currentsite.com/category/blog/ TO newsite.com/blogNote that: newsite.com is a self-hosted WP.org site.
newsite.com/news and newsite.com/blog are subdirectories of the new site.
