EDIT/ One other question: The email addresses are not “clickable” for some reason on a phone/mobile device. But my solution does not hamper the click-ability of the phone numbers – they’re still easily dialed by tapping the number.

    Thanks again!

I’m fairly new to this whole world of WordPress but I THINK I FIGURED OUT A SOLUTION!! (Those capitals are me being super excited!)

Here is a page on my site:
    nicenormalfamily.com/zz-test/
    Password: SUNDAYTEST

If you look at the page on a computer, it looks awesome. The problem is when you look at it from an iPhone/Mobile device.

It seems the table does not like COMMAS or HYPHENS/DASHES or SPACES.

I’ve changed the entire first row (info for Grandma Smith) to show no commas or dashes, and everything looks PERFECT on a mobile device. Changing the birthdates and anniversaries from hyphens to slashes, and changing dashes within a telephone number from dashes to dots looks normal. However, I had to eliminate the spaces within the address, which does look a bit odd. Also a bit odd is the way I had to list Smith/Grandma rather than Smith, Grandma.

    Any way to fix that?

BTW, your response time was nothing short of AMAZING. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I found a file but there was very little in it. I can’t even be sure it was the htaccess file, since I don’t know what that is. Looks like I’m going to have to leave the default password working as is. I just don’t have the knowledge to find the areas I would need to get to.

I’m not sure what that is or where I would find it :/

I went into settings and changed permalinks back to the default. Now, after the password is entered, you no longer get a 404 – instead it leads you back to the home page. Any other suggestions?

I really appreciate all your help with this!

Uh-oh! Looks like there’s a slight problem since I made the change.

When I’m on the page that I’ve protected (ex: mysite.com/unicorns) the user is prompted – with my all new custom password message – to enter their password. Previously, this would lead them to the full page which was still located at mysite.com/unicorns.

Since making the change (with the code above), entering the password takes you to mysite.com/wp-pass.php which shows a 404 error.

Help! The code DID do what I asked – allowed me to customize the wording of the password area, but now it isn’t leading users to the page they need to get to.

    Thanks again in advance!

YES! YES! YES! It worked brilliantly! I’ve been googling for a full week and couldn’t figure it out – in fact, the only answer I found gave me a parse error. Thank you so, so very much!

I notice the heading in bold “Protected: post name” is still just above my password instructions. Any chance you know how I can edit that? Since it’s pretty redundant saying it’s protected then just below telling them to enter a password?

I’ve checked all the templates and it is not in:
page.php, functions.php, comments.php or single.php (which is titled “single post”).

There is no post template.php listed.

    Fixed! Thanks anyway!

    I’m helping myself!

I found an area in settings where I can set a “static page”, so I made the forth tab (Nice Normal Family) the static page. Look weird but at least the 404 isn’t the first thing people see when they come to my site.

Still open to any suggestions anyone might have on how to get rid of the tab (Nice Normal Family) and edit the tab (Home).

    Thanks!

NOTE: When I go to my Dashboard and click on PAGES>ALL PAGES, “Home” is not listed. Only four pages are listed: “Hall”, “Hintz”, “Neighbors”, “Nice Normal Family”. So I cannot edit “Home”, delete “Home”, I can never go HOME again!**
