If you had searched for phpbb before suggesting that i do it, you would have found people who have claimed to accomplish this, but didnt say how. You would have also found people saying their working on a solution, but without any results so far. You would have seen that the search for “phpbb” would have been inconclusive, thus the new post.
    Yeah. I did search ??

I’ve just installed WordPress MU, and that apperently is supposed to have multiple blogs. From what i can tell, it has multiple authors, but theres still no seperation between thier posts. (ie; “test” entries and “admin” entries are on the same page).
I’ll need a different way to seperate them, as this instalation doesnt appear to have the permalinks option.

I just fixed it. I modified Smarty.class.php, setting $use_sub_dirs to false.

Yeah that helps a lot! I’ll put in that code now. Thanks again for all your help! ??

ok thanks for your help ??

Just to keep things simple, i used /index.php/users/ and created the account “test”.
I also installed that plugin you linked to. I know i must have missed something, but i’ve noticed there is really no seperation between blogs. For example “Test” could still update on my blog.
The directory /index.php/users/test still contained my own entries, as well as the entries of the test account.

That sounds perfect! Is there any chance you could explain in further detail exactly how to set that up? Like, what should i do with the .htaccess files? Is there a tutorial to set this up somewhere?
    Thanks ??

Right now i have very few users (my site isnt even really done yet), but one day i hope to have hundreds of users, so i need a solution that will accomidate that.
I’ve also heard WP is working on a multi-blog system (posted by an admin) but that probably wont be availiable for several releases.

The problem is, when a user joins my site, i want them to have their own blog availiable to them. If it was just me and a couple of my friends, that would be no problem. But for a site that constantly has new users registering, i cant do that for each new member.
I’ve tried a lot of different blogs. WordPress is by far the best, and i havent found the multiple blog feature offered anywhere for free. So at this point, i either have to find a way to get the WordPress MU working, or scrap the idea of hosting blogs on my site.
Thanks for your suggestion though ??

That WordPress MU looked good, but i cant get it running. I know this is a WordPress forum, but is there any other blogging software that would allow my users to register for their own blogs?
I’d like to use wordpress, but if thats not possible..

I tried the latest version from your link, and it did seem to go more smoothly, but i now get an “internal server error” when trying to “view site”.
It seems to be looking for /blog/main directory where none exists.

I figured out the htaccess.dist files are there to replace the current .htaccess files. At one point you will have to change the permissions of the .htaccess file, and you wont be able to. The only way to do that is to rename the htaccess.dist file to .htaccess with the proper permissions.
Did you have to edit the smarty.class.php file at all?

Update; I’ve installed it (kind of..)
    I can access the user menu, but when i try to “view site” i get a page full of the following errors;
Warning: Smarty error: problem writing temporary file ‘/1054ec3fd01168bdf6c8f2cdc6ca56b1/%%200/%%2001463753/418212ab6ddea’ in /home/cynikals/public_html/blog/wp-inst/Smarty.class.php on line 1042

    And so on..
    Anyone know whats wrong?

No, it was a genuine typo (unlike “cynikal” which was done on purpose). Its not exactly a newspaper. There will be many typos in my blog, and i’ll probably correct none of them. Eaither way, it has nothing to do with the design.
Speaking of the design (and this will make me sound like a no0b) but what are iframes? :/
