Thanks. I know, I explored both of these last year, and I found them to be complicated and of questionable utility. That was before I figured out how to change the location of the Publish button, which turned out to be the simplest and most perfect solution.

I’d just like to know how to fit my “position:relative; top:1000px” command into the new line of code which defines the Publish button. I’m sure it’s real easy to do, but I haven’t been able to figure it out so far.

I finally published my draft, and it came out blank as well.

The problem is caused by some—but strangely not all—pictures with captions UNLESS I include a blank line between picture code and text.

So, for instance, this caused a missing body in Preview as well as upon publication:

    [caption id="attachment_10000" align="alignright" width="300" caption="The Bigger Clown"]<a href="https://blog.cyberquill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/lod.png"><img src="https://blog.cyberquill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/lod-300x204.png" alt="Lawrence O'Donnell" title="Lawrence O'Donnell" width="300" height="204" class="size-medium wp-image-10000" /></a>[/caption] In one of MSNBC's customary O'Reilly-bashing segments the night before the...

As soon as I inserted a blank line after the closing [/caption], the body displayed fine:

    [caption id="attachment_10000" align="alignright" width="300" caption="The Bigger Clown"]<a href="https://blog.cyberquill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/lod.png"><img src="https://blog.cyberquill.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/lod-300x204.png" alt="Lawrence O'Donnell" title="Lawrence O'Donnell" width="300" height="204" class="size-medium wp-image-10000" /></a>[/caption]

Why this only happens with some but not all captioned pictures is beyond me.

Alright, the trick to write “paté so it renders properly on the page is to use HTML codes:

    p & #226 ; t & # 233 ; (minus the spaces)

While special characters (a, é, ?, ü, ?, etc.) render properly in Edit Post, they don’t render properly on the webpage unless I use the HTML codes.

Also, I noticed that replacing slanted apostrophes and quotations marks in Edit Post with straight/vertical ones (‘ and “) gets rid of some of the weird characters on the page.

No idea what’s up with the capital letters A with the hat on, which all my posts prior to 2010 are infested with.

Alright. I played around with it, and here’s what I found:

when I remove the following caption from the middle of my draft, Preview works fine:

    [caption id="attachment_9754" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Bill O'Reilly threatens a frightened guest"]

The moment I put it back in again, the entire body of my draft doesn’t display in Preview.

I have a few pics with captions in my draft. Preview only works after I remove this particular caption. Removing any of the other captions instead doesn’t help.

But when I leave the caption in but remove the bottom 575 words of my draft, then Preview works as well.

Summing up, Preview works when I either (a) remove this particular caption, OR (b) remove the bottom 575 words of my draft.

    Yes, same thing.

Yes. Saving my drafts works fine.

No way to move it to the bottom of the page?

Beautiful. Thanks. I just had to add #sidebar:

    #sidebar .wp_cumulus_widget h2 {margin-bottom:0;}

With time, the issue solved itself, i.e., suddenly picture and excerpt displayed fine.

My suspicion was that it had to do with the Disqus comment system I had recently installed and that it may have created some sort of conflict. I informed Disqus, and then the issue went away. So I don’t know if the Disqus folks did something to fix it, or if it just fixed itself.

Not sure what happened, but the problem suddenly resolved itself. Or maybe Disqus tweaked something server-side after I reported the issue to them. No idea.

Yes. Deactivated all plugins. No change.

I’m using my own theme. What I meant was that I had briefly replaced my own theme with the default theme. Doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I checked by replacing, one by one, the content of all the files in my theme with the content of the files in Default theme, to no avail.

Not only that, I can’t even repeat the experiment I reported earlier, i.e., switching to default theme or classic theme doesn’t solve the problem anymore. It only did so once when I briefly switched to default about an hour ago.

    I don’t know. I’m lost.

BTW, is there a way to temporarily deactivate RSS?

I’d like to publish a few “test posts” to see whether having Disqus enabled at the time of hitting the Publish Button is what causes the problem.

Trouble is, anything I publish instantly goes out via RSS and lives in people’s RSS Readers forever. That’s why I’m reluctant to publish test posts for troubleshooting purposes.

PS: The problem must be theme-related, because switching to the Default Theme solves it.

What is it about my theme that prevents thumbnail & description from displaying when sharing my latest post on Facebook?

Sorry to change to subject, but regarding transparency, you may find some answers here:
