In reply to: [Web Stories] Embedding into a post is hugeMy reply didn’t seem to go through, so one more time.
I created a test page that’s full-width to show that the web stories block will attempt to use the entire screen if given the chance even though the size specified is 360×600.

The only way to contain it that I’ve found is to put it inside an EmbedPress block (though it proves to be finicky about the exact dimensions needed).

In reply to: [OceanWP] How to add meta description to a search result page? This worked perfectly. Thank you for saving me the hassle.
Thank you for replying. (the second link doesn’t work, btw)
I’m already using the hide feature to hide a couple of images that slow down the page on mobile. That doesn’t solve the problem of the most important parts of the page being hidden if the user chooses to use Simplified view.
I tried to play around with using different html tags but haven’t found the combination that would fix this problem.
I’m guessing that Chrome might be using some kind of accessibility feature, similar to what screen readers use. Does Elementor have any documentation about how to optimize a page for screen readers?

In reply to: [Page Builder Framework] Category descriptions in menusYour solution helps with the tooltip being stuck. Thank you.
However, only the first item’s description comes up for me even though I gave a description to each of those three categories.
Any ideas why?

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] It stopped workingI found what the issue was. It is a bug. I’ll create a separate topic for it.

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] Admin console is slowI think I’ve noticed an issue happen recently when I couldn’t scroll through the admin menu. I didn’t think to blame this plugin for it but I’m curious if that’s what’s causing it. Anyone else experiencing this?

In reply to: [AWS for WordPress] It stopped workingAn update, I saw a similar topic here, the issue there was the secret key.
So I created a new set of access/secret keys and plugged those in. It did not solve the issue.
There is a message that the keys are not required if I am using IAM roles. AWS documentation says something similar but I can’t find any instructions on what has to be done differently if I am using IAM roles. It only says, “If you are hosting your WordPress site on Amazon EC2, you can use IAM roles instead of credentials. In that case, leave these two fields blank.” (here)
Yes, I am hosting my site on EC2 and I created a role for Polly but how do I use it in the plugin? If I leave those fields blank, I get a “Can’t connect to AWS” error.
I get no errors if I use access/secret keys. Polly shows up on the posts but doesn’t work.
Someone, please help.

In reply to: [Smart Slider 3] Slider URL settings causing issuesYou might be correct. I tried to replicate it by switching it back on again and it doesn’t seem to switch to IP address right now. I’ll monitor it for a while to see if it happens again.
I’m curious what config setting could have caused this in the first place. I haven’t touched the wp-config.php file manually, unless some other plugin did.
It was driving me crazy when it first started. I didn’t know where it was coming from until I noticed that it only happened on slider links so I poked around in slider settings and found that one.
Okay, everyone. I finally found a solution.
Editing CSS DOES work – I needed to tweak it a bit.1. I used Elementor Video widget.
2. Add the playlist url.
2. Added featured-playlist class to the object (Advanced -> CSS classes)
3. Added this to my stylesheet:.featured-playlist iframe{
min-height:400px;
}End result: size 570×400. Will have to tweak it further to get the right size for smaller screens but this method takes care of it.
You mean Text Editor and embedded video. I enter the url, it shows a preview in the text editor but on the page it displays nothing.

In reply to: [Gutenberg] I’ve got hopes but it’s not ready yetHi Marius. Thank you for your reply. I know you guys are working hard to get it right so I’ll try to be more specific.
There’s a learning curve to using Gutenberg and that’s why I said that it’s not basic enough. Not everything is where I intuitively would look based on past experience with other text editing tools. I’m talking all tools, like MS Word, email or even other blog services. Sometimes, I search for the tool/option where my cursor is, sometimes, above, sometimes on the side and other times there’s no option I’m looking for at all. That’s the worst of all because I had just wasted time looking in all of the above possible locations.
Specific discoverability issues:
1. Slug – I couldn’t figure out where to find it. In the old editor, it was in two places – by the title and at the bottom. I would expect that it would be in Document settings as it’s something that affects the whole document and not just a single block. Now I know where it is since I asked but it would have probably taken me weeks, months to find it on my own accidentally.
2. Link – It was driving me crazy! I thought that if I filled in the url and clicked outside of the prompt, it would be saved. I tried hitting Enter, redoing it in many ways. Also, the words I tried to link would appear to be linked (the link icon changed) but the link wasn’t actually there. It took me many tries before I figured out that I had to click on the arrow for my changes to take effect. It is NOT obvious.
3. Changing block type – why are there restrictions on what blocks you can transform a paragraph into? There should be a search box and suggestions. It’s very frustrating to have to create a new block of the type you want, then go and copy/paste and then go back and delete that first block. Why are you making complicated something that should be simple?
4. The last block. I understand that you guys are working on making it easier to add the last block but really, that should have been the priority of the first release. You’re on v.3! I expect to click below the last paragraph and start typing right away. There shouldn’t be extra steps for me to take in order to type text.
5. Some options are there for one type of object but not another. For example, look at options for an image and options for a video. I have to dive into CSS to do with a video what I can do with an image right in the editor. Whoever is scared of CSS is out of luck. Some things get in the way. For example, text editing tools get in the way if I try to go from block to block – I’d actually have to click somewhere completely else and then on the block I intended = extra work. Later, (by accident/exploring) I found that sticking it to the top solves that issue but again, proving my point – learning curve. Also, sticking it to the top makes it that then I have a long way to go with my cursor so that’s a side effect. There must be a better way to design this so the tools are quick to reach but not in the way when you’re clicking from block to block.
A similar point: Headings. Gutenberg requires 3 clicks to get the heading of desired size = extra work (classic editor is only 2 clicks).
Block writing: If you thought users will not be thinking about blocks, you were very much mistaken. That was actually my very first impression – Welcome to Block Universe. It’s not a bad thing, I can see what the potential behind blocks is but it also takes away some of that WYSIWYG expectation because it’s not really WYSIWUG anymore. Not even with plain text. For example, there’s no way to start a new line without starting a new paragraph (or is there? I’d like to know). I wish for a check mark to “stop automatic paragraph/block.” That would be ideal.
Bugs: they’re not huge and I get it that it’s a work in progress but as I pointed out before, it doesn’t matter if it’s a small bug. A little bug can destroy the experience immediately. For example, sometimes, I have the hardest time creating a link (separate from the issue above). It just won’t work. It won’t even let me fill in the url. Of course, when I get a screen recorder out to report it, it magically repairs itself and all works fine but that doesn’t bring back the lost time I spent trying to make it happen.
Text/Visual tabs and power users – I have no complaints about hiding pure HTML code. I was able to find where to go if I needed to change HTML for an individual block. For everyday post writing, it’s enough.
My comment how it used to be easier back in the crude days is about a lot more than just Gutenberg. A WP page is not just a page, it’s a collection of many different documents and trying to change something means lots of Find Waldo moments – “Where could this one word be hiding?” Like a research expedition…
But that’s a wholly different topic.
