I had this problem and it turned out to be an internal host name resolution problem. With the way I have multi-sites set up, each site has an alias host name that is only used internally. For some reason one of the resent updates caused my system to expect to be able to resolve this address externally. When I added that host name to the hosts file, everything cleared right up.
