Thanks a lot. this helps. Further what would you suggest – a sub-domain or sub-directory for SEO?
and what is the best way to export and import the contents? I was just thinking of the manual cut, paste each content, is there a simpler way out?

@assassinsat : your idea of having “the main domain https://www.mydomain.com will be just be showing all my recent posts of all my subdomains” is a good idea for ranking well in the niches. In this way you can work on ranking on your niche sites as well as since all your sub-sites will be linked to a common home page/landing page, it will give you the advantage of owning a huge directory of multi-niches.

So your thought process of have a common landing page with links to different niche sites is a great idea. I am working on similar site right now. You can have hyperlinks to dropdown menus for different niches on your landing page. For SEO purpose you will need to show that your landing page is having some activity and that can be achieved by the plugins suggested in this post. Let know your experiences, since I see this post is nearly 8 months old.

Sure will explore and post my experience :-). Thanks.

Yes similar, but along with word tags, would be great if we can tag the images from the new posts in the subsite on the homepage, will do good for the asthetics of the landing page along with telling the search engines that the landing page is being updated on regular basis.

Something like a image slider of the latest(or last few) articles posted or image with hyperlink to the latest post.

    Will this plugin handle that?

    Thanks once again.

To show that the multi site home page is having some activity for SEO purpose, how can one link the new articles being posted on the sub sites automatically when they are posted to the home page or the landing page. I was thinking of say a image slider or just images links being refreshed with the newly posted content. This would boost both the aesthetic of the landing page and show the search engines that there is activity happening on the landing page.

    How to enable this feature?

Wonderful just tried this this is working too. Thanks. Was looking for a solution for so now close to a week, I had gone into reading about multi-site feature of WordPress even, that had shown on how to create the multi-site but not how to showcase all sites into a single site like you have. Great ! thanks once again :-).

Super this is happening. Thanks a lot!

Will this work for category menus as well? i.e for posts ordered into categories that appear as menus on the home page?

Yes very similar to what you just said.

To help you visualize, I am looking at ehow.com, here each sub-site is added as a menu e.g, mom, home, tech etc on the main site menu ehow.com. When a visitor clikes on menu -> niches he like say for e.g Tech, a sub-site open for tech opens.

This is helping the site maintain multi-niche site from within ehow. I am looking at creating similar structure.

Did you also mean the same?

@whatapedia : I have the same question like you. I want to segregate my multi-niche site into separate niche sites and want those seperate sub-directories to appear as tabs/dropdowns as in your ehow.com example. can you let know how you have managed to do this?

I am trying something similar to what you are doing for your client. I want the home page to have tabs/dropdowns categories so that when the visitor to the site clicks on the dropdown/tabs of his interest he will be lead to that sub-site. But I have no clue on how to add a tab/dropdown which can link directly to the sub-site. Any clues?

How to I resize an image set as a featured image? Secondly how do I align the image set as featured image, by default it seems to be aligned to left and on the top left corner. I want to set it to centre or anywhere in the blog as appropriate. Thirdly how do I set a url link to the image to allow the users to open the link in a new page? Presently all these features are allowed only in “Insert Media” feature and now WordPress is not allowing one to set the Insert media as a featured image. Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Swetha
