Joe,
Your review is incorrect, misleading and you are doing a disservice to people looking for a free and professional backup solution. I don’t take issue with you pointing out we have a premium version of the plugin as it is posted quite clearly in the description on WordPress. I wouldn’t even take issue if you told me something wasn’t working properly, because sometimes that happens. But your review says WP BackItUp does not backup without an upgrade and that is 100% false. If that wasn’t enough, you even go further to state that WP BackItUp is a bait and switch plugin. I normally don’t respond to this type of review or email because it typically degrades into an argument but today I just feel compelled to respond.
The free version of WP BackItUp does indeed allow unlimited backups for FREE and it has since 2012. This is a fact that you would quickly see if you installed the plugin. As for the bait and switch comment. We state quite clearly in the description that the restore feature is a premium feature. How that is bait and switch is beyond me.
The bottom line is that I have personally spent hundreds of hours developing and testing this plugin and I offer the backup functionality free to the WordPress community. Additionally, I spent many hours writing an entire article on how to take the archive that is produced and restore it manually so that you don’t have to pay for the premium version. We do offer a premium version of the plugin for people that don’t want to restore their site manually but purchasing it is NOT required to take advantage of having a complete backup of your site.
I will take some time this week to review the plugin description to make sure that I am 100% clear about what is provided for free and what is premium but I would also like to ask you to take the time to provide fair reviews both positive and negative when you decide to write them.
Thanks
ChrisAlan,
Sorry for the inconvenience but WP BackItUp currently supports WordPress versions 3.8 or greater. I have updated the compatibility on WordPress. Thanks for bringing this to my attention Allen.

Ruspola,
Sorry you are having issues with WP BackItUp. You are quite a few releases back on WordPress so I am sure the issue has something to do with the WordPress version. Is there some reason you are so far behind the current release?Let’s see if we can figure out what is going on and get it resolved for you. Please open a support ticket on the WP BackItUp site and I will send you troubleshooting instructions.

In reply to: [Backup and Restore WordPress - Backup Plugin] Sad i cant restoreMaresen,
Thanks for the suggestion. I think we actually do even more than what you are suggesting though. We offer a no questions 30 day money back guarantee. This means that you can run as many restores as you want for 30 days and we will even provide as much support as you need. If at the end of 30 days you would like a refund then we will refund your purchase. We rarely have this happen because once people use the plugin they realize it provides much more value than what we charge. However, it does happen sometimes and we always stand by our refund policy. If you are in a serious financial hardship that prevents your from purchasing even the minimal cost of the personal license then email me directly from the wpbackitup site and we will work something out.I will post a tutorial on https://www.wpbackitup.com that outlines how to manually restore your site from the backup.

In reply to: [Backup and Restore WordPress - Backup Plugin] Sad i cant restoreMarseen,
It is possible to manually restore your site from the downloadable backup archive WP BackItUp produces. The backup zip file contains all your plugins, themes, uploads and an export of your entire content database. These can all be used to manually restore your site. There are many tutorials on online that show you how.
You are correct though, the automated restore and support we offer does require you to purchase a license.
Hope that helps.

In reply to: WordPress site backup – Help! You could use a tool like wp-backitup to backup all your themes, plugins and database. wp-backitup will do this all for you and put it in a zip file you can download right in your dashboard.

ChrisWe have been troubleshooting this issue and believe it occurs for 2 reasons:
1) An extremely large number of plugins
2) Slow site performanceIn the case of slow site performance, please report this to your hosting provider. It is often the case that when the performance issues are resolved, the slow backup issues are resolved as well.
We also recommend deactivating and deleting any plugins and themes that are not being used. Large numbers of plugins will not only make the backup slow, but your site as well.
In most cases this issue is resolved by removing unnecessary plugins and and in the case of slow site performance, when the host corrects the issue causing slow performance.
If the issue continues, please send us a support request via the wpbackitup site.

In reply to: [Backup and Restore WordPress - Backup Plugin] How long does backup take?teentoolbox,
We get reports of this happening occasionally and most of the time it is caused by issues with your hosting provider or with the size of the backup. As Rajeev mentioned it could be due to the permissions on your \wp-content\plugins\wp-backitup\backups folder so checkng to make sure that there is a backup folder would be a good first step.Additionaly, it is always a good idea to make sure that you have uninstalled and deleted any plugins that you aren’t using. A large number of plugins will not only make the backup slow, but your site too.
