In reply to: [Plugin: WP Security Scan] Scanner – File PermissionsI asked my webhoster (one of the top 5 in world. Everbody knows who they are) about this, and below is his response. He is a: Linux Administrator / Network Security Administrator
Hello,
This plugin is worthless, and is not designed to operate in our environment. I fail to see the logic in the statement that 755 is more acceptable than 750; 750 represents that world (ie, everyone but the owner and their group) have no permissions ( octal zero ) for that file/directory. suPHP (which we use in this environment for security) requires that public_html be 750 so that nobody but the owner and group membership members be permitted to descend into it.
Therefore to answer your question, yes, I can most definitely confirm, both from a logical standpoint and a systems admin standpoint that 750 is an infinitely better permissions permutation than 755, which would give read and execute access to world on the entire tree unless otherwise specified.

In reply to: [GD Star Rating] [Plugin: GD Star Rating] No links to siteThanks for the update.
I got used to seeing the links in the right hand column, and didn’t realize that the links are elsewhere.

In reply to: Can't save theme optionsSame problem. There are no save buttons on my blog. using 3.6.6.
Extremely detailed features, but cumbersome to navigate, partly because terminology used sometimes seems vague or less than accurate.
Examples?
“Visual effects” ( What is that ? )
Same with “Blog Features”I like all of the design options. However, this theme could be greatly improved if there were ways to MORE QUICKLY make significant changes to the theme navigation and appearance.

In reply to: [Plugin: BuddyPress Classifieds] Upload Images broken?is this plugin dead?
Website link does not lead anywhere?
I should add … seems like a good idea. Having a community, and letting members list classifieds?
Anyone know of a an alternative

In reply to: Automatic Upgrade WP 3.0 Not WorkingDELETING SOME PLUGINS FIXED MY AUTOMATIC UPGRADE PROBLEM.
Another suggestion Just wanted to throw this idea out there.
I have started upgrading various installations to 3.0, failing often.
One of the tricks I just tried (again) was to JUST DELETE some of the plugins I really don’t need. and, I did this inside of wordpress (as opposed to thru CPanel or FTP).
I then tried the automatic upgrade again, and it worked.
Sometimes this works; sometimes not.

In reply to: 500 Internal Server ErrorJust want to add that I had this 500 error, and I solved it deactivating all of my plugins, then deleted some I wasn’t sure of and really needing. This solved the problem, for me.

In reply to: Too much extra blank space in postsThanks for the information. You are right. I experimented, by deactivating one of the Adsense plug-ins that I had installed (but not actually used yet) and it fixed the problem right away. Thanks a mill.

In reply to: [Plugin: WP Security Scan] “Welcome to WP, please install your blog”Sometimes I get nutty reading “techy stuff” as some ( but not all ) people seem to get so archane. Sorry, just frustrated. You find a problem, so how do you fix it? Does anyone know how to solve these two issue?
“Before running this script:
(1) * wp-config must be set to writable before running this script.
(seems easy enough, but the next one is unclear)(2) * the database user you’re using with WordPress must have ALTER rights” (HOW does one change ALTER right?)
Thanks a mill.

In reply to: how to update .htaccess?Try this. Temporarily, change location of your blog, by removing “.index.php” from end of blog location. Then update, and run the permamlink change again. Not completely sure WHY this works, but it worked for me. (You can change it back, by adding the “index.php” back, if you like.)
