In reply to: 2.0.5 Dashboard goneI find that deleting everything in the cache in …/wp-content/cache helps. And I use Filezilla with no problems.
Maybe worth a try?

In reply to: Disable dashboard for low-level usersI did away put having a separate login page. I put the username and password entry boxes in the sidebar, and the user does not get directed to the dashboard at all, but rather stays on the same page.
Like you, however, I have a site where people have to be able to see certain content if they’re logged in, but I don’t really want them doing much else there.
If his userlevel is the most basic, only a logout link is displayed, plus a link for him to get to his profile page so he can change his password. He sees no link for the dashboard or site admin.
If, however, the user has contributor status, he logs in and whilst he stays on the home page, he now sees a link for site admin as well as logout and his profile page.
I’ve pasted my sidebar code here – hope it may be of some use to you.

In reply to: WP 2.0.4 – running terribly slowly!Thing is, the performance of my sites running v2.0.4 has been utterly appalling, yet before reading about it here I’d never even heard of the UTW plugin – I certainly don’t use it. So that’s not causing my problem, definitely. *sigh*
Oh well. I’ll keep trying to find the cause!

In reply to: New to word press, what do you thinkThe content is actually quite interesting, but for goodness sake get rid of that header graphic. Talk about irrelevant! ??

In reply to: WP 2.0.4 – running terribly slowly! Thanks vkaryl – that article looks very useful. Particularly the bit about file permissions, as I’ve been wondering about that for a while.
Many thanks for the link ??

In reply to: Wadja Fink?I actually quite like the cloud graphic, but small black text for the headings “about”, “recently”, “categories” and “information” is making my eyes bleed trying to read it! How about increasing the font size for those headings and making them white?
And when you hover over the links in those same sections, I don’t like the way they turn black as again, it’s terribly difficult to see properly. Not nearly enough contrast.
Further, the shade of blue used for the “comments rss” and “entries rss” links clash a bit with the other blues in your site. Perhaps a complementing colour would be better? And on that subject, the background colour of the comment form also clashes, in my opinion.
One more thing: can you make your site header, ie “arbu.co.uk” into a link to get back to your home page? That’s kind of conventional and I think users would expect it. I got a bit lost in the navigation and was surprised to see the header didn’t take me back to the beginning.
It’s great apart from these wee points though!

In reply to: WP 2.0.4 – running terribly slowly! No, I don’t have any outside access at all, which helps any potential security problems ??
“Harden my installation” … Um ..? I presume this means make it as robust as possible? Sorry, I’ve not heard that expression before …
