I found the problem. I bet this is what everyone else above was doing too.

When you check the “add to slider” box, it seems like that is all you would have to do to add the pst, but you also have to select “slider” from the window to the right of it. When you only have one slider, that second step doesn’t register as something you would have to.

Simple user error. It’s working great now!

I am having this same exact issue and cannot add posts to the slider. It keeps unchecking the box, like the above people mentioned. Is there a way to access the previous version that still worked?
