I’m not sure I understand the difference between a category and a group. A group for people with separate specific interests and a category to represent different subjects ????? Thanks

Hmmm… So far, I don’t know that I’ve had a reason to do much with ‘groups’. I have ‘pages’ and ‘categories’ but had difficulty finding ‘groups’ and when I installed a plugin to deal more directly with groups, didn’t see what you were talking about..

May be dense this morning but I can’t figure out the ‘front end’. I guess I’m not sure what front end interface is being directed here.

Hi, I was wondering the same thing (where does it show after you activate it). Isn’t some sort of ‘wigit’ required to get something to SHOW on the main page? I installed and activated but can’t find an interface.

changed httpd.config file and restarted Apache then put permalinks back where they were and the symptoms are the same. Can’t find the page.

permalinks WAS set at ‘post name’ prior to switching to ‘default’. This is a new install on localhost. I’m new to wordpress and wanted to learn a bit about it. How would you recommend enabling overwrite? Is that a function within WordPress? Thanks

That did the trick. Set permalinks back to ‘default’ and it’s fine. Thank you. ??

I was just wondering if it would be possible that the original that I worked on, still existed (that I just couldn’t get to it, because I hadn’t provided the correct password).

Is it possible that I never even got back into the original setup and just ended up with a new one going with the original (given I never did get back in with a password)?

Thanks for the replies to this thread. My “preference” has always been to develop on my Apache/MySQL/PHP development machine and then roll it out when completed versus developing ‘live’.

When I downloaded WordPress recently though, to take a serious look, it occurred to me that I wasn’t seeing what I was used to looking at when I looked at folders that should have been housing my work. There WAS NO 5 or 6 html or css files that were the bulk of my work that I could then just upload to a server. And as I write that, I’m referring to just the front end ‘look’ of a website, not the backside and obvious MySQL requirements but then not every page, is or needs to be viewed as a CMS and it’s a CMS that clearly would require some back service in terms of MySQL.

All the humble opinion of a WP newbie… lol

In the future where you don’t have it on a server, (other than local host), you MIGHT want to just sent screen shots unless there is some interaction you’re trying to share. I’m new to WordPress also and have a bunch of questions on how portable I can make a project since I’m used to the html approach. Even then though, I would often send a screen shot to someone and then follow up with a phone call, i.e. “is this what you were thinking about” or “what do you think”, etc…

I agree with ClaytonJames, make sure you have Apache fired up. I received a similar error at one point.

Thanks. So I take it that word press was kind of designed to be developed ‘live’ versus on a development machine where it can then be relocated easily as an html website can.

Still though, and aside from a database or widgets, one might think that the files wouldn’t care much what server they reside on and inter-relate just fine with each other. I’m a wordpress newbie and don’t know any better so thanks for your patience… lol
