I found the solution myself – had to change the position of the images/tables above the table to a center position (instead of align=’left’, and now the tables display properly.

I am really grateful for your input. Your second suggestion with the background picture, positioned top center, works perfectly.

Not really. The color in the left sidebar (grey) repeats down all the way, but still not the red color on the right sidebar. it’s always either the left or the right, but never both. Is there anything else I need to change in one of the phps?

Well, you are a star and definitely found the fault here. The permalinks were wrong, on all websites that weren’t working. Instead of being /%postname% they were /%postname%/

However I wonder how they can change without me even having opened the wp-admin in the last few weeks on two of the websites, and the other one I definitely didn’t change any settings last night when I shut off the computer and the site was working properly until then.

But anyway, thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate you being so patient with a newbie …
