So I finally did the test you first suggested (i.e. disabling plugins, custom themes…) on the live site.
It didn’t yield any result and the extra backslashes were still there no matter what. With a bit more hindsight, all I can say is that it appears to be very random: only a few users seem to be affected and not all the time. All the impacted activity notes are “vanilla”, i.e. text only, without pictures, links or videos. I can’t make any sense of it.
So my solution is to replace the class_bpfb_codec.php of version 1.6.4 with that of version 1.6.1. This works.
Feel free to ask if there’s anything more you’d like to know, or to mark the topic as resolved,
Best
Hi Bojan,
Thanks for your reply.
Well, I reverted to version 1.6.1 on the site, so that solved the problem for now, and there isn’t much to see there at this point.I tried doing the testing you suggested (default theme, with and without other plugins running…) but as I didn’t want to mess up the site too much, I tried it on local and I was never able to reproduce the problem…
Everything works fine on local. Maybe I should add that my local Wamp install runs PHP 5.5, whereas the site runs on PHP 7.0.To try to pinpoint the origin of my problem, I tried to upgrade from 1.6.1 to 1.6.4 one file at a time, and see which file precisely was triggering the weird behavior. It turns out it’s the file located as follows:
buddypress-activity-plus/lib/class_bpfb_codec.php
Apparently, it’s somewhere in there.I’ll try more testing on site when it’s quiet, and I’ll let you know if I find anything interesting.
