Whoosh! Thanks, podz, stunning response (as per usual).

If *you* say it’s simple and stable, then I’ll go take a look ??

There was the hint of a “role manager” plugin in the WP2.0 Beta discussions (during beta and prior to RC1).

Did this not make it to release?

In V2.0 (I didn’t test in any other version) you *can* include an image in the post title field – just code the img src as normal (into the title field) and it shows happily in the post. The img also appears in the relevant fields in the Dashboard displays, etc.

I have *not* comprehensively tested this – so it could cause hassle elsewhere :o)

I was checking this possibility out for myself – what I really wanted to do was auto-include an “icon” in the post-titles, like yourself, to visually distinguish between post categories.

I did find some clues in the codex (which defeated my php capabilities) and a couple of plug-ins which looked promising (but which similarly php-challenged me!).

If you find a way, please share it!

If you haven’t yet taken a look, Zenphoto is lovely. Some quirks yet, (it is a Developer beta), but developing very nicely. Doesn’t have all the features you mention, but sometimes when you see someting nice, you adapt to what it has, rather than what you think you want ;o)

    Very smooth, very minimal.

Some have got it “integrated” into WordPress very nicely, and a more “out of the box” integration is certainly being asked for by a good few. Definitely one to watch, in my opinion, and one that seems to marry very well with the WP ethos.

    Update: ongoing.

Changed to “recent_comments.php” plugin – as recommended, but display of recent comments as before (with my-hacks.php) Currently looking through the stylesheet with a magnifying glass (using Daisy Rae Gemini variant). Will update when something known.

Thanks Podz for time and patience :o)

Yeah, but a) it works! and b) even plugins require you to work with CSS, right? ;o)

Yeah – got a url, can I get it to you in a slightly less public fashion? Or is that non-PC? *laughs*

I’d echo the advice above – I also use Dreamhost, but there are others (some recommended by WordPress themselves). The cost comparisons made it a no-brainer for me, and I have no complaints whatsoever. Which is more than can be said for friends who *have* chosen UK hosting.

It appears that Dreamhost can’t actually sell or host co.uk, but all you need to do is get your domain redirected to them and that’s sorted.

Add to this the fact that Dreamhost (and presumably others recommended) offer one-click installs for WordPress, SQL databases, etc. etc. :o)

Thanks for the pointer to the horizontal theme. Much appreciated, but I want to try and achieve this effect within the confines of a “normal” vertical theme (as in the cited example).

Still hacking away, but all I have achieved thus far is a vast range of various failures!

Dougal: just to clarify (since I was, for once, reasonably quick on the ball with the announcement & upgrade) ~ if I reacted to the announcement in these forums and downloaded after that time, I should be OK?

Can I verify this with time-stamps or anything? Damn, sorry to pick up on the panic… *sigh*

I just stumbled over this theme whilst following links to WPGallery2 – and I have to say it is one of the nicest, cleanest themes I have seen in a while. If I ever graduate past “hacking” and into designing my own, this is something I would be very proud to do.

Nice job – hurry up and release it! :o)

Can confirm that upgrade from 1.5 >> 1.5.2 was a breeze – followed the provided 1.5.2 upgrade instructions (paying particular attention to the “not overwriting” instructions!) and all was perfectly painless. And successful. :o)

    Thanks podz.

1.5 > 1.5.1.3 > 1.5.2 was *just* complicated enough to be making me balk :o)

I too have a couple of setups still on 1.5 (overlooked in previous upgrades). I’d rather skip to 1.5.2 if this is feasible.

Can anyone confirm a successful upgrade directly from 1.5 to 1.5.2 ? Presumably the “/wp-admin/upgrade.php” instructions must still apply in this case?

    Thanks in advance!

Is all this wonderful info rendered obsolete by the 1.5.2 release?!

I’ve been sat here thinking “should I? shouldn’t I?” and then a new release appears.

    *sigh* ;o)

FWIW, Podz. I use Dreamhost and have no cause for complaint whatsoever – I have had a couple of outages, but *shrugs* I assume backups and upgrades will take out my service from time to time. I’ve only ever had my free P*pex webspace before this, and I can only comment that I find the Dreamhost service a pleasure.

One-click install for DB and WordPress is a breeze.

Support is improving all the time – quick response and personable. And, like this forum, they seem to be pretty forgiving of dolt mistakes!

No axe to grind, just a balancing comment. :o)
