In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?Oopp sorry. I just changed it back to the child for a moment.
OK, NOW the site is up using the parent theme. THIS is what it’s supposed to look like.
Thanks!

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?You know, this reminds me of where I was at, about 40 minutes ago. Where the parent looks good, but the child is messed up..lol.
Should I try deleting the child “style.css” file and then re-create it?

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?How do I clean browser cache?
And actually, it really changed and it looks bad. Do you want to see what it looked like before? I’ll change it back and you can see all that’s wrong with it. Here’s the link to the PARENT:
https://momscrazywritinglife.com/
This is what it’s SUPPOSED to look like. The middle is supposed to be white and it’s supposed to have margins on either side. The font is off, but I can change that.

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?uh oh! I just updated the parent theme. I activated it just to make sure it was still ok. It still looked great.
HOWEVER, when I went back to activate my CHILD theme again, it’s whacked out again. There’s like NO margins and the entire background for the text is all brown. Can you take a look?

Any suggestions? ??

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Problem solved!!!!!!!!!!!!! It looks great now! The only thing missing is my header photo, but I can easily add that!!
So, my last 2 questions are:
So now when I edit, I just work off of the theme “scrappychild” now, right? I don’t use the parent theme anymore?
And also, now that I’m working out of my child theme, do I still need to update my parent theme “scrappy” with the newer version that was offered?
And THANKS AGAIN for all your help!!! ??

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?Hmm….I DO have a space.
I’ll go fix that and see what happens.

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?yes that’s exactly it.
It’s themes/scrappy child/style.css
File “Scrappy child” is not INSIDE of scrappy. It is along side it.
Is it supposed to be INSIDE of scrappy?

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?Yes, i can access the style sheet just fine.
And I did change it accordingly so it’s relevant to my theme. Here’s the code I used.
/*
Theme Name: scrappy Child
Description: Child theme for the scrappy theme
Author: Your name here
Template: scrappy
*/
@import url(‘../scrappy/style.css’);But here’s something else that I see: When I go to my themes in WordPress and it shows I’m using “scrappy child”, it says “
“This child theme requires its parent theme, Scrappy.”
Well, my parent theme is installed and working fine. But like I said above, there IS a newer version that it always asks if I want to use and update for that parent theme.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again for all your help!

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?I DO have a stylesheet called “style.css”, but what is that “ver=3.5.1” at the end?
Does this make a difference – I noticed something with my OLD theme. Now even though I am running the current version of WordPress 3.5.1, my PARENT theme, scrappy, DOES show that there’s an update. A new version, it says. I didn’t update because I was scared of losing stuff.
Might THIS be the reason nothing is looking right? Do I need to do the update anyways because it won’t look right unless I do?
Thanks!

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?OK, I re-created my child file and I’m pretty sure the child theme was created correctly at this point.
But when I activate it, it still doesn’t look right. The color scheme is kind of there, but it’s a mess. Here’s the site after activating the child theme.

Can you offer any suggestions?
Thanks!

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?OK, so I STILL can’t create this child theme. ;(
I went to the link above:
https://themeshaper.com/2009/04/17/wordpress-child-theme-basics/
And I went through the steps…TWICE. I used 2 different themes to make sure it just wasn’t a theme problem When I viewed the style.css file itself (from the cpanel in hostgator) it looked like this:
/*
Theme Name: Fission
Description: A Child Theme of furry family
Template: furry family
*/
It looked exactly like the contents of the stylesheet.Then I added this line to the end like I was supposed to:
@import url(../furry family/style.css
It was supposed to look like the original theme. It didn’t. It just looked like this”
/*
Theme Name: Fission
Description: A Child Theme of furry family
Template: furry family
*/
@import url(../furry family/style.cssSo, I went to my WordPress dashboard theme area. I saw the parent them, but not the child. So I did a search for installed themes and this is what it said.
“Broken Themes
The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
Name Description
Fission The parent theme is missing. Please install the “furry family” parent theme.”The parent theme furry family IS installed. I actually activated it for a minute to make sure.
What am I doing wrong? I’ve been working on this SOOO long now.
Can anyone help?
Thank you!

In reply to: Isn't Child Theme supposed to look exactly like parent theme?I can do that, as soon I re-create my child theme again. I just deleted all my child theme files, but I’m going to attempt it again.
So, as soon as I finish it, I will post the link.
Thanks! And be back soon!

In reply to: Child Theme – looks wrong when activated- what is this used for?Thanks for the help! After looking at some other sites, I have decided to “chuck” the idea about the left sidebar! I’ll just make it work.
So, now I will work on that child theme.
Thank you SO MUCH for your help!

In reply to: Child Theme – looks wrong when activated- what is this used for?Well, unfortunately, I really need that left sidebar (which I STILL haven’t gotten set up yet. I still can’t understand all the instructions). Actually that’s what started all this mess..lol!
My situation is, I’m starting to add ads and ClickBank links to my site and that right sidebar is getting way to heavy with ads,so I need to split them up on both sides of the page.
But you guys have made it really clear as to what my choices are now regarding the child theme. Thank you so much!
So, either I just stay with my parent theme since it’s already formatted as I like it…OR….I start tweaking the child theme I created, until it looks like my parent theme, right?
Thank you so much! I’ll have to think what I want to do now, but now it’s very clear what my options are.
Thank you all SO much!
