Some out of stock items are not showing at all, but some are showing as grayed out?

But for the color variation, I see what you mean, that isn’t behaving as expected. When nothing is selected, you can select either color but once one color is selected you can’t readily change it without using “clear selection.”

I’ll look at my product variation settings and see what might be causing that behavior.

You should not have to clear selections.

You should check your settings for pages on Woocommerce -> Settings -> Pages -> Shop Pages

Not that there aren’t good applications for “change image on mouseover” for products; there are, so this would be good to figure out.

I hope that they can be talked out of it gently, or that they just forget about it as you work on actual problems. If I didn’t hope they would just forget about the issue, I’d want to ask them where they had seen it, so you could go look at it “in the wild” and review how well it really works.

Can you take a screen grab to show us what the issue looks like, exactly?

I’d try to duplicate the problem on another wordpress/woocommerce installation.

you can “Clear Transients” and “Reset Capabilities.”

Not sure if that will fix what ails you, but that is something you can try.

I’d have to say that I think that is a worse user experience, to have the image change from one thing to a different view, just because your mouse is hovering over the image. There isn’t any indication for the user that they are going to find the back of the pillow there, and the changing image would be unexpected. Better to use a lightbox sort of thing, where thumbnails of both views are seen below the main image, and can change by clicking on thumbnails, or the standard woocommerce/wordpress lightbox experience.

You can assign a unique featured image to each variation, yes, and once that variation is selected the new featured image should be displayed.

If no specific variation featured image is assigned, however, the product’s default featured image will display.

I’ve only done this for products with color variation, and it does require that a combination is selected before the picture loads, but it seems like it would still work for you, it would just require uploading and assigning a lot of images. My application here only uses 5 images, but I could have used 15 if I wanted to have each size/color combination display its own image.

Be careful before you commit to doing anything in “Editor” … it is editing the actual theme files, you should always have a backup of your theme ready to switch to in case you fudge it up.

Have you ever made a backup of your theme? If you can get into your site by FTP, you will be able to find a folder containing all your theme files. Download that to your local computer for safekeeping, make it into a ZIP file to make sure you don’t mistakenly edit those files anymore.

Don’t add a product image in the description area, at least not the main image.

Just set one image to be the “Featured Image” and it will be used as the thumbnail on the shop page and category page, and also as the main image for the product page.
