In reply to: Is it possible to outgrown WordPress?I’m considering moving to WPEngine — and it’s going to be $600 a month.
I wanted the $250 a month Virtual Dedicated Server option (which tops out at 400K views a month), but they’re (of course) recommending the $600 dedicated option.
Is this Cadillac-ing?
I just want my site to be steady and secure and never ever crash like this again. It’s only limping along right now because I took Vault Press and Sucuri off. Scary!

In reply to: Is it possible to outgrown WordPress?Absolutely. Will do!
I did not realize that this was a problem that could happen. So, I’ll definitely let you know how the transition goes and if things improve.

In reply to: Is it possible to outgrown WordPress?ETA, I have NOT tried a designated server, but I will now!

In reply to: Is it possible to outgrown WordPress? Thanks for the feedback. Bluehost told me this nonsense that I was too large for WP.
And also that a dedicated server wouldn’t solve my problem. I’m not an IT geek, but even I see how nuts that is!
Fact is, I’ve outgrown even the most amped up shared hosting they have on offer, and I’m looking at moving to VDS, virtual dedicated server? with WPEngine.
Jack, I don’t know what a content delivery network is, but I will totally look into it.
Catacaustic — I have tried designated service, but that’s what I’m moving toward now (with all that expense too!) I think it has to be better than what I’ve got going now.
Thanks!

Has this happened to anyone else?

In reply to: 4.0 update, now links aren't workingThanks Otto.
The developer wrote back, gave me the login, so I can read about the solution, but she can’t fix it for me. Is there anywhere I can hire a person to fix this?
I’m afraid to tinker under the hood and eff up my site further. I’m a writer, not a coder. My geek powers have limits.
Thanks for all your help, Otto. I truly appreciate it.

In reply to: 4.0 update, now links aren't workingThanks Otto. Don’t mean to be ungrateful. It’s very helpful to locate the problem with Thesis.
I live outside of Austin and the person who built my site used Thesis and has the license (or some software developers license… knows the developer or something).
All to say, I didn’t realize it’s a paid subscription and I can’t access troubleshooting. Guess I’ve had a bootlegged theme… who knew?… now I know.
Ugh. Guess I’ll pay the $87 to fix my problem and subscribe to Thesis.

In reply to: 4.0 update, now links aren't workingThanks Otto. I’m not a developer and I confess none of this is making sense to me. What exactly can I DO. How do I fix this, and is there even a fix?
Thesis and 4.0 don’t play nicely together and make your plug-ins disappear. And… what next?
Thanks…

In reply to: Comments are closed? Huh?I just checked it and under default all of these are checked
Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article
Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks)
Allow people to post comments on new articles
(These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)Somehow maybe the settings got overridden for that post?
I don’t know. I’m the only admin and suddenly the comments didn’t appear. Everything else under Settings/Discussion looks normal.
But now I know how to fix if it happens again. Thank you!

In reply to: Comments are closed? Huh?Thanks Theme Diva!
Any idea why my comments would suddenly shut off? Or is WP peculiar that way?

In reply to: New user registration? WTF? Is this spam? Thanks Otto. Hey, dumb question, but is there any harm in turning off user registration? People can still make comments and such?
