In reply to: .htaccess & Permalinks ProblemI’m having trouble with this too and none of the above seems to apply to my situation.
I’m running WP1.5. My WP URI is /domain.com/blog/wordpress while my blog URI is domain.com/blog.
I’m trying to change my permalink structure to /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ from the Dashboard. When I hit “Update Permalink Structure” I get a message saying my .htaccess isn’t writable and giving me the mod_rewrite rules I need in .htacess. At this point the links on my main page did change, but clicking on them gives a 404.
So, time to modify the .htaccess file manually. But the thing is: I don’t *have* an .htacess file, or at least I can’t find it. So I created one with the mod_rewrite rules provided. I uploaded it to domain.com/blog, chmod it to 666 and my blog goes “500 Internal Server Error”.
I delete it out of domain.com/blog and put it in domain.com/blog/wordpress, chmod to 666. Now the site loads but it’s lost all the formatting — the content is there, but all theme and formatting is gone.
What am I doing wrong?

In reply to: I want to change directory of my blog’s home pageNevermind. Apparently the fix was “You have to edit and upload the index.php file 37 times.”
Who knew?

In reply to: I want to change directory of my blog’s home pageDangit. I gave up on trying to do it my way and now I’m trying it the FAQ’s way (wordpress directory as subdirectory of root where index.php is located) and it still isn’t working. Here’s my error:
Warning: main(./wp/wp-blog-header.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/deadpan/public_html/pie/index.php on line 4
Suggestions, anyone?

In reply to: I want to change directory of my blog’s home pageSo much for trying to keep things simple… ??
Thanks for the quick answer, moshu, but I didn’t give the whole story so I could try to keep the question simple. The longer story is that I have a blog created in MT at domain.com/blog and a new install of WP in domain.com/wp. I want to leave all the MT files where they are and run WP over it without having to move my WP installation into the domain.com/blog directory, or into a subdirectory of it.
Hence the simplistic question: Can I run index.php in Folder A while WP is installed in Folder B when the folders are on separate paths? It didn’t work for me and I’m thinking it’s because they need to be in the same path. Do they?

In reply to: I want to change directory of my blog’s home pageI’m still a little confused after reading all these this.
- Let’s say my domain is domain.com.
- I’ve installed WordPress into domain.com/wordpress.
- I want the blog to live in domain.com/blog.
Can I place the index.php file in domain.com/blog and run the WordPress files out of domain.com/wp, or do they need to be along the same path for this to work?
