Ok I have restored to elements I have deleted and the site appears to be working fine now.

How do you suggest I remove this plugin?

Also I am using a shared hosting account, when you say that the plugin heavily modifies .haccess is this only for the actual file within this particular web directory for this website? Or would this plugin have affected other websites running under the same hosting packages but in different folders on different databases within the hosting package?

Just to add further to this, if I remove the file advanced-cache.php (which the error code is mentioning) and also the object-cache.php file, then I can log in to the dashboard however my website displays the following errors in the header both in the dashboard and also live on the website:

Warning: include(/websites/123reg/LinuxPackage23/ox/an/ad/oxanadodon.com/public_html/conservatoryonlineprices/wp-content/advanced-cache.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage23/ox/an/ad/oxanadodon.com/public_html/conservatoryonlineprices/wp-settings.php on line 58

What can I do to get rid of this issue?

Thank you esmi so very much for all of your help – I am pleased to say that your advice worked perfectly ??

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

ok thank you for all of your help – I am just backing everything up as we speak and I will then upload wordpress as per your instructions. I have also deactivated all plugins before I upload.

I really appreciate the time you have taken to answer my questions and once again apologise for asking so many!

As soon as I have uploaded the new wordpress I will let you know what happened.

Sorry I misunderstood. No it is just one website I have https://www.streetcredits.co.uk but I have others using the same shared hosting package. Does this make any difference to whether or not I keep the other files I mentioned above such as the sql-backup.sql and folders called ‘blogs’ and ‘tmp’ etc?

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

Yes I have other website within the one hosting package. This is just one website out of 6 I have in total.

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

ok sorry for sounding difficult, its just that I have the following files which are not included in the new wordpress update (zip):

    sql-backup.sql
    wp-atom.php
    wp-app.php
    wp-feed.php
    wp-load.php
    wp-pass.php
    wp-rdf.php
    wp-register.php
    wp-rss.php
    wp-rss2.php
    a folder called “blogs”
    a folder called “tmp”
    wp-commentsrss2.php

as well as a few others… shall I delete these as well?

I just don’t want to delete things that I shouldn’t and therefore am asking before I carry this out.

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

Why is this, other people have said just to overwrite?

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

Ok thank you… do I have to delete everything as you said or can I just copy over the files (except the wp-content folder) and overwrite what is currently there?

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

I am sorry to sound so stupid but I haven’t ever manually uploaded WordPress before. Can I clarify exactly what steps I need to take to do this:

Do I literally delete everything in the folder except my wp-content folder (which I will back up)?

Then I download the latest version of WordPress 3.6, unzip it and upload it via ftp.

Then I move my old wp-content folder back and log in?

I have had exactly the same problem as Mindful826 – I receive error messages and my site functionality is limited since attempting to update to the new wordpress. How do I update wordpress via FTP without losing any of my website files etc?

Also, once I update WordPress, will my site work as before?

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

    Thank you for your response.

How do I do this – manually via ftp?

What about my database, will this affect this?

    Thread Starter Chris Thomas

    (@chrisstreetcreditscouk)

How do I go about fixing this problem so that I can update to the new wordpress 3.6?
