It’s not exactly what I mean.

When you upload an image it also uploads a thumbnail image with it. There should be an option to turn it off without having to uninstall GD which is just stupid.

That’s not a true fix though, now you won’t have the pingomatic service.

Fixed. Seems there’s some problem with the Cat2Tag plugin where you need to re-save the entry for it to be updated properly.
