The settings page says that it can be overridden on the settings within each page/post. Have you checked there?

Much more simple; just turn it off (I found this after I’d figured out the code to do it!);

Appearance/ Mantra settings/ Graphics settings/ Title & description – change this to hide.

Said it was simple!

Did you download the settings from the previous version via Appearance/ Mantra settings page? If you did then just re-upload them. If not, then (& probably better in the long run) do as Andrew says and create child themes (whioch is where we reach the limit of my computer coding knowledge!).

Settings/ Discussion/ Default article settings/ Allow people to post comments…

As it says, this can be overridden on individual pages and posts.
