Never mind. Figured it out.

I have reached out to my hosting provider as suggested Jose. As far as they can tell, the problem is not at their end. The permissions on my file are all as they should be, so they think the problem is with WordPress since I don’t have any problems updating the files outside of WP. This is a year later, I still haven’t found a solution. It’s unfortunate because I find the ‘editor’ function in WordPress faster than having to log in to my server via FTP.

Thank you. I since figured out that it might have to do with the host and contacted them. I’m waiting for a reply.

Ok, I apologize for this mix-up. The ‘visibility’ module is actually a Jetpack plug-in feature, which only activates when the site is live. I just assumed that it was part of the Widget Logic plug-in because of how it displays in the admin panel.

It was suggested in a now closed forum, that tags can be used in the media library to organize items, but that option doesn’t seem to exist. Where can I add tags? I am using V. 4.0.

See my response and screencaps in the other tread. It does work as far as specifying language code. The ‘visibility’ part either doesn’t work, or the button has simply disappeared.

I uploaded a couple of screen caps to illustrate what we mean.

The widget only shows Widget logic: where we can enter the language code. There was (before WP 4.0) a ‘visibility’ button underneath that when clicked would expand the options to ‘Show if’ ‘page’. That visibility button is gone with WP 4.0.

I was wondering the same thing, Slobizman. If anyone can recommend a way around WL it would be much appreciated.

I should specify, as I have in another tread, that it does work as far as specifying the language code, but the drop down to more customization such as selecting which page/post a widget will go does not.

It doesn’t work for me. I hope this widget is maintained… I highly depend on it.

I’m having the same problem. I believe alanft means that the drop-down customization menu doesn’t work. I can use WL to specify language code, but it doesn’t expand to allow to select where the widget will display.

I found a solution via Serverpress.com. I develop my sites with Desktopserver in a Windows environment, and that’s where the problem was. According to a wonderful technician at Serverpress, (verbatim) on select Windows systems, a file can become corrupt and inject an additional carriage return which may be causing an issue. This issue can easily be fixed, here is how:

1) Open the file at c:\xampplite\php\prepend.php in your favorite text editor, i.e. Notepad.

2) Delete the entire contents of this file; please ensure that there are no carriage returns or any characters in this file and save it.

3) Use DesktopServer’s first option to “Stop or restart…”, followed by the “Restart…” option. Please uncheck all checkboxes if you are not using these features (i.e. “Enable Dreamweaver…”, “Enable Trace..”).

That solved the problem for me.
