You should be able to create an event as an editor – the editor has publishing rights according to the WordPress Codex.

Did you configure the settings in WordPress Admin?

Go to Events > Settings
for the calendar the slug is events
for the list the slug is event

Don’t forget to check the Display tab. If you go about 1/4 the way down the page you will see ‘Events Template’ and you can set it to ‘Default Events Template’ or to ‘Default Page Template’ or any of a number of other selections. The ‘Default Events Template’ is the Post or Page that you create and resides at the slug //events/.

If you upgrade to Pro I believe you get a series of short codes you can use to put events all over the place. The basic WordPress event through The Events Calendar can produce some really fantastic looking event notices, registrations, even tickets. You can organize seminar information in “talks” sections and that is cool if you think about it and use it for normal events with multiple actions going on e.g.

I think you use a short code or set it up in a widget that hits your left side bar for the page. You should be able to put recent events in their. It may not let you format them though – they might not be a list but rather a list with images. That might blow the look of your page.

do you mean show a list of events on a post page or the open details of an event on a post page with other content?

try line-height see if it works line-height: 70% or 80% and it should bring them closer together by removing the space.

I was using a version that required an update to PHP because we were on 5.6 I think. Well I tried loading it not realizing the PHP discrepancy and the server basically exploded. I was with A Small Orange. 10 days later they still could not fix the server. So I left and went to Green Geeks. We are on PHP 7 and your stuff loaded fine. The only problem is that the downloads don’t show in admin. They are there but not being read in. We have a lot of downloads so I am hoping I don’t have to load them all again!!! ??

Any thoughts? The downloads consist of the last 4 years of bulletins and information for Saint Joseph Cathedral. That’s like 300 bulletins and notices.

I found the problem. On the Display page the site was set to Default Page from Event Calendar instead of default template from the site. As soon as I changed that everything worked.

It definitely has to be something on the cub scout site because I am having no problems on the saintjosephcathedral.org site. It’s truly weird. I have flushed the permalink several times. I will look at bringing the site down and shifting the plugins off.

I cannot deactivate all of them, I have some that I have to retain like Slider Revolution and a few others that form the foundation of the sites. What I cannot figure out is that this code is working on another site saintjosephcathedral.org. I have not yet updated the site to Pro for the shortcodes. I wonder if my host has a different php configuration for cubscoutpack603.org the site that is having issues. They like to tweak PHP to make WordPress faster and more secure. But they have secured me out of my own site as well so they might go a bit far. I will check.

I just upgraded to Shortcode Pro and when I put the shortcodes on any page they show up as text. Something is interfering with the function of your code. Do you know of any know plugins that interfere with this code? We are using the Credence theme on our site.

I changed the them to twenty seventeen – still had all the same errors. slugs are not working, shortcodes are not working. Something is either blocking this for this site. I cannot figure out what. Debugging is not on. There 404 errors wherever the calendar should go. I am going to pull the entire set of plugins out and reinstall them all to see if that helps.

Thanks – I am wrestling with the short codes now. The list of events on the event page are coming from the calendar and are a chaotic mess. Not sure what to do with that yet.

This plugin is more work than you think…

the menu would look like page/news/calendar
but the calendar is still sitename.com/calendar

I believe WordPress is rotating the images. The better part is that in my installation, Media Library cannot rotate ANY picture. I’m thinking the genius coders at Word Press are going to need to take a hard look at Media Library and it’s many shortcomings. Yikes!
