Okay. I just emailed my webhost to see if they can help and I would be willing to bet they can do that for me. I feel like a total Luddite which, of course, I more or less am.

I will update you and close when it’s fixed!

    Thank you.

I appreciate your post. I had already tried several of these, bearing in mind that I’m not a coder, just a user of WP. None of these methods work, I’m sure because I’ve made some error. Is there a way to uninstall WP from the site and start over from scratch?

Hello. Thank you so much for replying. The country/region box simply has no drop down menu and you can’t type in it. There is nothing to show.

I’m trying to do the settings manually and it is taking a long time.

In between time, I’m setting up other features so any help you care to give would be grand. Thank you.

Oh, and “registering a new account just to get here”? Meaning, to log into WordPress? That doesn’t make sense, unless when your site went down, your email got deleted somehow. I’m not sure WordPress would have failed to recognize your email just because it got deleted. It’s basically a User name when you log into WordPress as far as I know. I could be wrong about that. But again, WordPress doesn’t control your site. You just use it to create content on your site.

To add to the above reply from a non-Wordpress representative (that is, a mere user), my first instinct would be to tell you to contact your webhost. WordPress is not a webhost, it is merely a tool for using to create content on your website. It has nothing to do with the integrity of your site.

Likely your webhost took your site down for various potential reasons. Or it got hacked or something. But WordPress doesn’t do anything to your site itself, it’s just a tool.

This happened to me and turned out to be a missing or corrupted .htaccess file.

Good morning. I am not a coder, just a blogger. But this exact thing happened to me last week. I posted on the Forums, read all the replies, read everything I could, and finally reached out to the tech-guys at my webhost, Qwk.net. It turned out that I had been hacked via a plug-in. Sounds like the same thing has happened to you.

My webhost technical people found that one of my plug-ins had allowed this type of phantom user and one of them had facilitated a complete hack of three blogsites and my main page. Therefore, I encourage you to look at your plug-ins and consider that one of your plug-ins is the problem. It’s kept my site down for a week and cost me well-spent funds to get the tech folks to clean my site. Good luck.

Good day to you, t-p. As my OP indicates, I am a NON-CODER, and I do not understand “all the trouble-shooting steps suggested above”. That is my point. I have no clue what you mean by most of your ideas. That is why I was careful to advise that I am a NOT A CODER. Thank you.

I’m having this problem with 4.7.2 but I am NOT NOT NOT a coder, just a blogger. I cannot see my type in the post area. I tried deactivating plug-ins and clearing my browser cache. I am not not not not not (did I say not?) a coder. I do not know how to code. WordPress update 4.7.2 apparently caused this and I have no ability to code to fix it so how do I fix it? Thank you.

Did you see my comment that I am a blogger, not a coder? I do not know how to code. I do not understand any of your instructions. How do I fix the problems caused by this update without coding? What I have tried: Deactivating plug-ins, clearing cache of my browser, installing a clear-cache plug-in which I have no idea if it works or what it does. Thank you.

Dear forum, I am the original poster here. Now I cannot write in posts. I am NOT a coder and DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CODE. WordPress is supposed to be user friendly, eh? Or so I thought. I do not know what to do. Anyone able to help? Note that I am NOT REPEAT NOT a coder. I am just a blogger. Thank you.

What I have tried: Deactivating Plug-Ins. Clearing cache in my browser. Downloading a clear-cache plug-in. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CODE so telling me to code will not help.

    Thank you for your help.

This is happening to me. I deactivated all plug-ins, switched to Theme Twenty Sixteen, and still cannot type. I am NOT a coder, just a blogger, and I do not know what to do. I need very simple, non-coding solutions. Thank you.

Thank you. I am not really good at this sort of thing but your explanation seems clear and easy to follow. I will try the steps one by one later today when I have time to focus and repost if I have questions. Thank you very much.

    Mr. Wells, thank you.

First — I followed your instruction! Thank you so much.

Second — Why would I not be able to see the comment section when I visit themissourimugwump.com, if you can? Also, where does it appear when you look at the site?

Your help is wonderful. Thank you.
