The solution to the reduced image editing functionality once my website was involuntarily upgraded to WordPress 4.3.1 from 3.0.5 was a plug-in by Gregory Cornelius “Advanced Image Styles”, iteration 0.3, found here-

I ascribe to the age old axiom, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
Personally, I do not see any advantage or improvement from WordPress 3.0.5 and 4.3.1, with the exception it looks prettier. Big deal.
For my host (JustHost) to involuntarily upgrade my website that has worked perfectly, for more than four years, regardless of my protestations, is unforgivable.
