I tried it both ways–selecting both parent and child, and selecting only the parent. When I select only the parent, I get a completely blank page, not even the above message.

For the record, I understand the frustration with the multiple updates–but I’m also grateful to Yannick for doing them. He had a lengthy beta testing period. But the very people most likely to break the plug-in–people like me who have extremely complicated libraries and who can’t risk having those libraries go down–were the ones least likely to install the beta. So problems with complicated libraries just couldn’t be caught at the beta stage, no matter how much he tried.

So when the first non-beta version came out, and I installed it, lots of things broke. Yannick was careful to allow for an easy way to downgrade, so that I could keep my libraries up until the weekend (when it was less critical that they be up, and when I had more time to work on them). This was particularly a help because there were some things Yannick wasn’t going to be able to fix–the fact that my site map plug-in required me to include all custom post types or none, so I suddenly had no way to show other custom post types without showing every single link in my library. (This one required me to search for and install a site map plug-in that would allow me to select which custom post types to include.)

When the weekend arrived, and I had a chance to start working with the update, I was peppering him with support requests. He responded to each one within a few hours, and quickly updated the plug-in to fix the problem.

So yeah, it was a lot of updates–and my support questions were probably the cause of half of them. But anyone who didn’t want to update the often had the option of going back to the last 5.9x version until the bugs were worked out. And there really weren’t a lot of good options to figure out the problems ahead of time, or to fix them once they arose without multiple updates.

    That worked–thank you!

I will e-mail you the settings file. However, one clue that may be helpful: Add Link works just fine on those pages with multiple categories, where I have a drop-down list to select the category to which the link is to be added. Where it does not work is on those pages (like the one in the original post) with just one category, where I hide the “Link Category” option in the User Submissions tab and select the sole category for that page as the default category.

    That fixed it–thanks!

I’m trying to send through your personal site contact form. However, it seems to have gone into an endless little circle going around next to the “Send” button, with no signs that it is going to get around to sending. If there is another way to send (e.g., a personal e-mail address), and you don’t want to give it in public, you could let me know via my contact page at https://benefitsattorney.com/contact/

I am running the latest version. I moderate links, but the links I submit are not showing up on my moderation panel.

How would I send you an export of the library configuration? This page is not providing a file upload option.

No, I just changed them, since I didn’t know about that option.

Ah, okay. Apparently, there is no way to do what I wanted to do, which is to have it show only certain custom post types. I’ve now found a different plugin that will do that. Thanks for your help!

Thank you! That helped a lot.

Okay, I think I’ll wait to do this until everything settles down. The first time I tried it, assigning one category to be a subcategory of another broke the whole page. Perhaps I need to do things differently–e.g., only assigning the parent category, not the subcategories, to that library. But since everything is now working, I’ll wait for the demo to change anything else.

It was not the excludcategoryoverride list that is causing the problem. I tested, and the exact same problem occurred if the only thing on the page is [link-library-cats settings=12].

However, whatever update you did to fix the error at the top also fixed the problem.

First, even after updating, I have the same message at the top.

Second, I figured out what I did before the update. For this purpose, let me use https://benefitsattorney.com/library/irs, because I didn’t set up any subcategories for that one.

I set up Library 12 (Internal Revenue Service). Categories to be displayed are chosen in the drop-down menu under “Common.” They include Internal Revenue Service, Actions on Decision, etc. I then set up the page using [link-library-cats settings=12]

The problem is, I have no way to select category numbers in the Common menu, only category names. And apparently, the numbers didn’t convert over, so selecting the categories on that menu doesn’t work.

Above was edited to indicate that version 5.9.15.7 still works, but 6.0 does not.
