Although my problem was different, I also needed to to just delete everything and start all over again. I contacted my web host (BlueHost) and they had no problem just wiping my server clean so I could re-install WordPress and start all over again.
Thank you both very much for your help. Setting the alignment solved the problem immediately. I feel like an idiot but at least I’m a grateful one.
