In reply to: [YARPP - Yet Another Related Posts Plugin] Create Custom Thumbnail SizeI’m not sure what to do here. I can find the thumbnail sizes, but they’re all square. How would I set a rectangular thumbnail. All of my images are landscape pictures of cars. Square thumbnails make them look pudgy.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I’m not sure how to do the ftp thing, but worse, when it wiped out all the plugins, it too UpDraft with it as well.
Where do we go from here? I did leave all my databases so I’m almost tempted to just start rebuilding the site plugin by plug in. It may be easier than determining which of the plugins are more deserving of being eliminating that kept around.

In reply to: changing theme doesn’t change “appearanceThanks, George. I know enough FaceBook to be dangerous…but only to myself.
I have a better idea what I can do now. I know that to more experienced/knowledgeable people, this sounds simplistic, but when something’s working, you don’t want to break it.:-)
Thanks again.

In reply to: changing theme doesn’t change “appearanceThanks for the prompt response. I guess the problem is in site menu under appearance. The first screen capture you posted is the actual front page of the site. The second is the sample front page that somehow has my sidebar attached. It has nothing to do with my actual site.
I made a screen capture of the dashboard showing the menu (under Appearance) but I can’t see how to attach it. Anyway, under Menu Structure, Menu name is “birch-main-demo-navigation”. The first item under that is “Home” with “Homepage Option 3” and “Homepage Option Unlimited” as child(?) items under that. None of those, as well as most of the items below that have anything to do with my actual site.
I’m not sure what to do at this point, or even where to look to look up the answer.
Again, I’d like to attach a screen shot but I don’t see/know how to do it.

In reply to: [WordPress Popular Posts] Themes function greyed outI may just go back to the original site that I made before I go further down the rabbit hole with this “professional” site. They may be too smart for their own good, if you know what I mean.
But thanks for looking into this for me. I’ll give WordPress Popular Posts again, depending on which way I decide to go with this.
Thanks again.

In reply to: [WordPress Popular Posts] Themes function greyed outAh, yes, rogue post. In WordPress Popular Post there is a listing of posts. Well, one of the posts listed (not sure whether it was one of the top five or just one picked out at random), instead of being in the sidebar list was over by itself, among the blog list.
I’m not very fond of Elementor and actually have built two WordPress sites on my own using the current WP system and themes, and working with Elementor, at least in how the developer set it up is surely part of the problem.
As far as the themes, is there a picture of what the themes look like somewhere to I can have an idea of what’s available so I don’t have to test and retest.
Thank you very much for your more than prompt response!

In reply to: [Max Mega Menu] how many menu items?Sorry, but I don’t know more. I’m not a techie. Show this boy code and he shrivels up like cellophane thrown into a fire. It’s not pretty.
The Mega Menu plugin isn’t being maintained anymore, but I had a website repair work on it once and did some sort of magic on it when I got up around 400 items, iirc. And then they did something before until I finally succumbed to their entreaties to change the site over to joomla. That dragged on until I threw in the towel and it never got completed. (There’s more to the but this isn’t the time nor place for hashing that out. I just walked away).
Anyway, I’m up to about 600 items now and it’s starting to slow down again. It’s starting to take time loading on the user side, and adding more items is becoming a matter of patience. Eventually it won’t take any more. [Insert sigh here] I don’t think that anyone will be able to help me at that time.
I can’t believe that with the millions of WP users there aren’t a bunch of people who would like to have multi-as in hundreds or more menus such as I have.
There was no pro version, just the one I have…for as long as I have it, and heaven forbid it should wind up with a vulnerability, as the site is focused around that menu.
C’mon out there in Plugin Developerland, there are two of us who want a solution to this problem. Surely there must be many many more. Or at least a workaround. Anyone?

In reply to: [Max Mega Menu] how many menu items? Thanks, Tom,
Actually, I tried updating WP to current…I hadn’t changed for a while because, well, a long story. But the after doing the update, I can add menu items. It’s a slow process to add–as in it’s not instantaneous like everything should be these days, but it works well from the user side, and that’s the important part. And I can keep my current system. ??

In reply to: Can wordpress work good for big directoriesWell, check out CarBuzzard (https://www.carbuzzard.com). The index in the left sidebar was done with a plug-in and then by a techie who allowed it to take on more entries than it had when it hit a certain limit. I think it was about 180 links, but my memory…
Anyway–and no doubt there are those out there much better qualified to answer that question than I, but this is one example, though I suspect you’re looking for something much larger.
Got it to work. Now I need to sharpen my tweeting skills:
