In reply to: visitors, new registered users, subscribers, et al.catacaustic,
Thank you.
That is what I was trying to understand. Thank you. I suspect that those that are getting through as subscribers are doing something similar. One or two out of maybe 10-20 look legit. The rest look bogus.
I suspected some sort of back door approach.

In reply to: visitors, new registered users, subscribers, et al.Yes, I agree. But, I believe I was not clear. If I uncheck ‘anyone to register’, I get none. If I leave it checked and assign ‘Subscriber’ to the ‘New User Default Role’, I get some subscribers listed in the Dashboard as ‘Subscribers’. And, their emails look goofy.
But, how do they do that? How do they get in?

In reply to: [SG Window] Adding disclaimer and FTC compliance textcats_456
Thank you for that. It worked!
So you mean to actually delete the line in the file after it appears on my blog? Is this so that the SG themes can be kept updated?
Thank you, again

In reply to: [SG Window] Adding disclaimer and FTC compliance textHi cats-456,
In my other affiliate themes I have the messages and a copyright symbol in the footers that display the “powered by word press” link.
I do not mind leaving the SG Window and SG Double credits, but for government compliance purposes I should display the disclosure and disclaimer messages also.
For my SG Window theme the following needs to be added to the footer:
“copyright symbol” and —– The material of this web site is provided for informational purposes only.

In reply to: [MailMunch - Grow your Email List] cannot create sidebar widget formHi,
I am using a WordPress SG Window theme. I added Mailmunch sidebar optin form. The sidebar shows the optin form twice, one beneath the other. I cannot attach a screen shot to show the result. Here is the address of one of my posts: https://seniorshealthcaretopics.com/getting-rid-of-hemorrhoids-the-natural-way/. It may change as I am working on the problem.
I have done the following to attempt to fix it to no avail.
- Completely removed the plugin including all associated files and re-creating the form.
- Adding the form from the ‘customizer’ panel of SG Window theme and choosing the ‘sidebar optin’ option from the drop down ‘Select’ box.
- Adding the form using the dashboard ‘widget’ option and dragging the widget to the 2nd default column and selecting ‘sidebar optin’ from the ‘select’ drop down box.
- Deleting the form completely and then recreating the form using the dashboard ‘widget’ option by dragging the empty widget to the 2nd default column and selecting ‘create new sidebar form’.
All to no avail. Please help.

This old man sometimes overlooks the obvious of the most obvious. There are no comment prompts in those posts because they are ‘old’ posts. Discussion settings are for ‘new’ posts. Posts on this site under construction were posted before all discussion parameters were set. The new ‘test’ post showed the comment prompt.

Well, Eureka! I have been playing with it all day yesterday and today and it works! I now better understand the layout and flexibility of this theme. The terminology was somewhat confusing for me, being somewhat of a novice. I have successfully installed several much simpler themes. Nevertheless, it’s working.
I still have a problem with the comment prompt not showing on the post. I allowed all users to post in the ‘discussion’ settings, saved the settings and there is no place for anyone to comment. I compared the settings with the settings I have on my SG Double theme and they are the same. SG Double has a ‘Leave a comment’ prompt at the foot of all the posts.
I don’t see anything in the SG Window customizer to enable or disable the comment prompt. Is something overriding the prompt?
Thanks,
CarlosForum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: [SG Window] Can't save changesCats_456,
I very much appreciate your patience in your attempts to help me. I am using SG Double at a different site and have had success with it. For this new site I wanted something a little more sophisticated so I chose the parent theme, SG Window for this site.I will attempt to better explain the problem. I have set all the parameters/options in customizer and saved them as I noted in my previous post. The display of those changes appear on the screen to the right of the customizer drop down selections. In that display of the ‘new’ changes I can navigate throughout the site and everything appears to display and function correctly.
The customizer shows every change to be ‘saved’. And it is saved somwhere because it is in the display window even after I log out of customizer and come back later.
The problem I am having is that the site does not appear on the web as I designed it, even though customizer shows the changes to be saved, but they are not published. All the changes work within customizer.
On the web, the front page is correct. Clicking on an article in ‘Recent Posts’ the returned page shows the article with featured image in the middle (like I want it) but the sidebars are empty. seniorshealthcaretopics.com
What am I not doing?

In reply to: [SG Window] finding default SG Windowcats_456,
Thank you for the upgrade. It fixed everything. I don’t know what you changed, but now any intuitive changes I make appear correctly and are saved as I intended them.
I just noticed the upgrade a few minutes ago. I upgraded and presto the screen reflected my modifications.
I was about to delete the theme and attempt a third re-install. If I could not make it work on my third try, I was going to rate this theme badly, but I will reserve that judgement and rate it well after I play with it some more.
I like the look of it.
Thank you for your help

In reply to: [SG Window] finding default SG WindowCats_456,
One last thing, as a theme builder, what format do most people use in building a blog that eventually you want to monetize – 2 or 3 columns?
At first, this blog will be content rich with little or no ads or affiliate links, eventually (3-6 months)I will add a few banner.
Any opinions or experience with this approach?
Again, thank you

In reply to: [SG Window] finding default SG WindowCats_456,
That is great news! Forgive my ignorance, but I am reluctant to change any settings/options lest I screw up what I already have. Can you, one more time, tell me how to do that? I want to see what it would look like with: left sidebar – post content – right sidebar.
Thank you again for your help.

In reply to: [SG Window] finding default SG WindowThank you, cats_456 that worked. I wanted to have a look at what a 3 column might look like, but it seems that I can only do either, or, but not both right and left columns at the same time. Is that correct?
Thank you again,
Carlos
