  • ThedocX – can you tell me exactly what you mean by all “extra fields”. Not sure I understand.
    Thanks!

I sympathize, ThedocX. I have the same problem and have had it for quite some time (since the first post) with no resolution on my site, https://www.thesmopro.com.

I have searched and searched this forum but have found no help. I have tried everything I can think of, taken every little bit of advice I could find and still…nothing. Tried upgrading to the latest WP version. That didn’t work.

I have another Word Press blog which used to have the same problem but changing the permalinks format to the default fixed it (have you tried that, thedocX?). This is not the case with thesmopro.com site.

I am ready to tear my hair out. Any help at all would be met with the deepest appreciation and undying gratitude.

I finally got my site back up with my son’s help – it was a strange problem. He thought I uploaded the new files to the wrong location on my host site but that was not it – it just started working again, which is very odd.

Rwilki – I’ve had your problem before, too and I did find a fix here on this site. I don’t remember the exact steps to fix it, but I remember having to delete a file and then add it back in (during which time you would not be able to log in to your WP account). Check all your settings locations to make sure they are correct – my problem ended up being the location the URL was pointing to.

Thanks, DJ – I will try that. Appreciate the help.

Completely deleted all themes except default – still nothing.

Also tried deleting the htaccess file and reinstalling, that didn’t work either. I have disabled all plugins and gone back to the default theme again but no luck there either.

Michael – I have tried going back to the default layout and could see nothing with that, either. New database upgrade went just fine – no error messages.

I have more problems with comments and have noticed many other users do, too. I have too Word Press blogs and have had both of them unable to comment. Finally got one fixed, now the other one has that problem, too. It seems to just show up at will and not go away and I have spent hours and hours and hours trying to find a fix.
With so many people having the same problem, is there some kind of help sticky someone may be able to post which would walk everyone through a series of steps to try and diagnose?
Obviously, we have all looked at the standard stuff like “disallow comments on this post” and checking/unchecking requirements which allow comments.
There must be some sort of code which is central to most themes which is causing this pervasive problem?
I am at my wit’s end and I can tell others are, too.

I am having the same problem with being unable to view my site on IE (looks fine on Firefox), but I do not believe it is the fault of the theme (as this problem is only intermittent).
I had this same problem with IE previously, and had to change the structure of the permalinks to fix it.
It has been fine until the last post went up. It is obviously not the permalinks now that are the problem as nothing has changed there.
Are there any other suggestions as to how I can keep the site compatible for both Firefox and IE?
    Thanks for any help!
