This was my mistake – my user was set as ‘contributor’ and wasn’t allowed to edit published posts, I updated capabilities (https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/5389) and all is good.

@gowthamselvaraj, no – I got no response and couldn’t figure out a resolution, so gave up.
