  • Ivva . . . The support team at my hosting company was able to fix my page for me. If all your files are still on their server then you should check with your hosting support and see if they can help you. Here’s what they sent me as their description of this problem:

The issue is that the website path was changed in the control panel from krausgrafik.com/wordpress/ to krausgrafik.com/

The path to the admin page is /www/htdocs/wordpress/wp-login.php and by changing the path in WordPress to krausgrafik.com/ The server will attempt to look for the admin page at the fallowing path /www/htdocs/wp-login.php causing the error.

I have restored the path in WordPress to reflect the correct path on the server. You may access the admin page by the fallowing URL

    https://krausgrafik.com/wordpress/wp-admin/

I hope that will help you! I was in full panic all night until I heard from them all morning!

    Best . . . Dave

If Ivva and I uninstall and then reinstall our WordPress, does it delete all the database files that are already there? Would we lose the whole site? Seems like the files should all still be thee on the host–we just can’t get to them. If we could is there a file where the “wordpress/” part could be added back in?

I unfortunately made this same exact error a few hours ago. I am on chat support with my hosting company (Verio) right now. Any suggestions from folks would be MUCH appreciated by me also.

WPyogi . . . This is indeed a new site. I’m a total newbie seeking to move my site from regular posting at https://www.krausgrafik.com over to WP so as to make it responsive and otherwise bring it up to date. Currently my old site relies heavily on Flash and thus is invisible on mobile devices. This seemed like the best way to do it.

I just updated through Verio to MySQL5 and to WordPress 3.8 and at least now I’m getting an active preview of the Evermore theme. This is very encouraging! But I’m going to wait till Monday AM to actually activate it. That’s the soonest I’ll have several undisturbed hours available to deal with troubleshooting if any is needed–and I’ve found it’s always safer to assume some WILL be needed!

I certainly will and I appreciate all the help. 3.1 is the default that installed. But there is a note on the dashboard that 3.8 “Parker” is available for download.

So it occurs to me . . . perhaps that is the problem? This theme may not be designed for use with 3.1? I’ll check with the developer on that, too . . . but I have a commitment this evening and probably won’t be able to check on these till tomorrow.

    Hmm . . .

Is Akismet a near-universal plug-in? If so, then I would think it would be something that would work with this theme.

Since I know that I can uninstall, then reinstall WP from the Verio control panel and get back to the start line, seems like I could safely try to activate Evermore again and see if that odd “Hello Dolly” plug-in was the culprit. If Evermore works, then problem solved.

If it goes blank again, I’ll reload WP again, then query the developer, even though he has a notice on his own support page that he does not handle installation issues. The worst that could happen would be that he would be unable to help me.

Does that make sense? Again, many thanks for your help!

    Hi Tara . . .

Thanks so much for your help with this!

I have not loaded any new ones and the ones that came as defaults are “Akismet” and “Hello Dolly.” Akismet is a spam filter and is not activated, and I have deleted “Hello Dolly” . . . it’s a stupid app that apparently displays random lines from the song. Not sure why it was in there anyway. After some research, it looks like Akismet is a paid service, so I’ll try the Evermore theme again and if it still goes blank I’ll try deleting Akismet, too.

I’ll also sign on via FTP (Cyberduck) and see if there is a mu-plugins folder, though I’m not quite understanding how there would be plug-ins that are not visible in the admin plug’ins panel.

I uninstalled, then reinstalled WordPress through my Verio control panel, so I am at least back to my start point. The default 2010 theme is visible with no problems. This is why I feel it is probably a theme related issue with Evermore. When I activate the Evermore theme is when everything goes blank . . . So I am doubting it will help to rename the 2010 theme folder to “old”.

Also, if I delete the 2010 theme so Evermore is the only one and must be used–and it is indeed a theme related issue? If the only available theme is a bad one, what happens?

I don’t feel I know enough about what I’m doing to manually re-upload all the WordPress files, as I have found folders in several places on my server that seem to be connected with WP and I sure don’t want to mess anything up.

Any further advice is greatly appreciated!

    Dave
