I would like to be able to make a post without wordpress adding any formatting whatsoever, Like one could with the older versions.

    Thanks

Its always nice when a request for support becomes a personal attack. Is this not going a little astray from profesionalism.
    Thanks for the assistance.

This is ridiculous. One shouldn’t have to hack like that to get the most simple basic functionality.

This puts WordPress way behind other products at a time when there are claims to wanting to use WordPress for the Enterprize. If an unresolved request from many remains unanswered for over a year it is an example of no support whatsoever and no large organization should consider it.

The inability to turn formatting off and on is a serious liability.

I have a post on my WordPress install, “Because of the inability to turn off formatting on WordPress, you will have to go to my Movable Type site to see this demo.”

    Basically that says it all.

There are quite a number of unresolved requests for this, and the fact that they are unresolved for over six months makes WordPress look a very poor choice, and one of several why I do not recommend it as a developer.

One would think that the developers would care????

It is absolutely essential to be able to turn formatting off and on to be any kind of serious contender in the marketplace. The inability to do so makes it unusable.

I was going to do the above hack, which is brilliant by the way, but it is needed to have this a choice, off or on. Movable Type and Expression Engine have had this from day one.

I wouldn’t even bother with WordPress, but it has the potential, and a lot of good people working with it, and has some plugins and functions that are terrific.

The apathy of the developers on this makes it much less usable for any serious development work though.

I cannot believe this. For anyone who adds code for media or almost anything else it is essential to turn off formatting. If one cannot, then wordpress is useless.

I can only assume I am missing something here. Do I need to pay someone for assistance? This isn’t meant to be rude, its just frustrating to get no assistance as a developer who would recommend wordpress if it did certain things.

I would hate to see WordPress become a platform that isn’t usable overall and get a bad name, whether because of a lack of features or support.

    Nooo,

    I want the code processed.

The BREAK tags I want to not happen. Its auto formatting, and I find that totally rediculous as a developer that they made WordPress to auto format with NO way to turn it off.

Thank you, I’ll give it a try.

Note: Topic started 2 years ago…Topic NOT resolved…

I add my 2 cents. As a programmer I use Movable Type or Expression Engine for code work as they both have a simple option to turn off formatting for a post or even part of a post. A simple matter that seems impossible with WordPress.

When I am adding code for flash or other things that don’t allow break tags, I do not want break tags, and tightening up the code does not work.

Why anyone would exchange EE for WordPress is beyond me. It is easy to configure, easy to work with, has a great support system, the forum is the best, and is way easier to configure than wordpress.
    Each to their own ??

Is something that is in the codex and doesnt work an impossible to answer question?
I give up on open source completely. No support and code that doesnt work along with an inconfigurable platform is a complete waste of time.

lol, why bother! I give up

    One more try.
I have a real estate agent.
He has a list of properties for three areas.
I made each area a category.
He has 100 listings for each area which will grow, which makes the page too long.
I spent forever trying to do this.
I can do anything with MT, EE, twiki, and any other program.
    Wordpress is totally un-understandable.
So what if I’m not a php programmer? Not everyone is, and they are still nice people.
    We want paginate.
Everything about it is written for programmers.
So its a programmers only club.
    Will pay.

Is there another program that can do this?
    I’m lost here.
A webpage that shows one article, and links to another one in same category.
12 hours later I am trying to explain what that means.

    First line on this thread:
“I have looked everywhere for a non programmer’s explanation of having one post on a category page with links to next page.”

I know what one post on a page means.
    Also a category.
And a link to next page in that category.
Does anyone know how to do this?
    This is all very strange.
    I’ll pay for help.

He has a category. Say dogs.
He wants ten pages on dogs.
Page one, page two, page three etc.
Amount of content on each page limited somehow.

Its gettin confusing because I am trying to explain it in a way its understood.
One webpage, one article on that page.
    title
    body.
    scroll down.
    end.
    —>next page.

I know no other way to say it.
    this is strange
    Does nobody use paginate here?

    (@bruce21)

I set it to show one post.
There is one post on main page
Now I go to main site page, and it says
sorry, you are looking for something that isnt there.

So I set it back to show ten posts

    Thread Starter bruce21

    (@bruce21)

Sorry for sounding negative, its a little frustrating.
a client wants three categories of information.
Of these he wants one post on each page.
Each category will have ten pages.
Want them paginated and linked, but not on sidebar

Even with Movable Type which has poor docs and most plugins not working can do that.
If I cannot limit a page to one article, then I have to make every page a separate category.
Then manually make hard coded links to each page (next page >)

Why is this soooo difficult when it should be as simple as making bread?
