Question, when you say:

Is this change primarily driven by an attempt to it easier to integrate third party (like your for purchase “pro” version) systems into WP? I have a sneaking suspicion that the push towards CPT’s is directly focused on capitalizing on the success of the app market models common on smart phones.

Same here! Anyone got a fix for this really annoying bug? You can set the time range by setting your time and then (before saving the post) clicking on the “All Day Event” button. It will hide your times but they will actually appear correctly in the post and when I return to edit the page it is correct.

I think the default display for new posts is not correct for some reason.

How do I turn it on for ALL plug-ins then? Seriously, I cannot find the switch/button/option/selection/dialog to turn debugging on.
