Hello again and thank you to everyone who tried their best and helped me out!

Today I had help by two people and we tried and find the cause for the problem. And what can I say: we solved it! But it was a rocky process.

In my database another website is hosted, whose making was started, but never finished. I just saw it today, that this site also had some problems, in fact 49 malicious data files in the database were found. I did some other scans using plesk on my initial site and well… more malware found in files. They were all over the place, in uploads, plugin folders and even inside (!) the wp-config.php! They just changed the text inside this file a little, so they could crawl in.

Side-note: Wordfence never suspected anything. The site was clean and there was nothing unusual going on the whole time. So I am not sure if I like the plugin completely… Maybe it suspects stuff in other cases, but in this case it failed me.

It was the usual: two admin-accounts were created on the second site, a bunch of comments were written and approved by one of the “admins” containing suspicious links. The site was fortunately never filled with content so the 52 (!) comments could not be read anywhere. But… the files were also planted in the part of my first site. Nearly not as much as on the second one but still… impressive!

So, we did what every normal adult would do: sit down for two hours and go through every found malicious file on both websites and delete the whole thing. Mostly they were pretty easy to identify with names like “hjdoaa.php” or “rmlpfyn.php” but some were disguised as “profile.php” or other official sounding names. Only the wp-config was not deleted but edited to fit the original file.

And only after this last step (editing the wp-config!) the website worked like before! It took 2 hours… which is great considering I spend about 50 hours last week troubleshooting.

Can’t tell you how happy I am to say: This topic is fixed! The problem was and will always be: the user! ??

Adding on to the information: Using the staging site I just disabled every plugin, except for:

1. Cache Enabler (to clear the cache between changes)
2. WooCommerce
3. PDF Invoices for WooCommerce (I was not able to deactivate this plugin, my try always brought me to the white site I encounter when making changes to content, Failure code 500() – also WordPress sends me a mail stating there was a critical error on my site, ending with: “…&plugin_status=active&paged=1&s&_wpnonce=ae536c361a”; also when clicking on “rollback” (to install a version prior) I get this error message: “rest_no_route”)
4. WP Rollback
5. WP Staging (to not kill the staging site somehow and with that kill my live one. Not sure if that fear is valid, never worked on a staging site before)

Additionally I reinstalled WordPress, deleted and reinstalled WooCommerce and switched to storefront only to find, that the problem is still there, no changes.

I try to include as many details as possible, maybe there is something interesting and helpful in one of them. Please let me know if I can provide any more information ??

I tried the storefront theme and only woo commerce some days ago on my live site, unfortunately there was no changes to the problem which left me stranded.

thank you very much for your suggestions!

I tried scanning the site with Wordfence: Installed its plugin (only the free version) and scanned the site. Except for 13 update suggestions (mostly Plugins that are installed but deactivated and 2 activated ones whose updates were released today or yesterday, which I haven’t updated yet) nothing else came up.

I then made a staging site using “WP Staging”, which leads to my domain name with a bunch of numbers behind. Inside this staging area I installed the plugin “WP file manager”, edited the wp-config.php with the following text:

Then I went to WooCommerce > Status > Logs inside my staging site and discovered: nothing! There were exactly two logs, one was for woopayments and the second one was a “test-log” file. No fatal logs or any other data. The test-log file was empty.

The second problem seems to go deeper than I initially thought. I have no option of doing anything relating to changes at the moment. I tried:

• changing a product
• changing an order
• setup my cache plugin
• select multiple plugins on the plugin site and try to deactivate/activate them all at once

All of the above resulted in: a white screen with the same error message as the one in checkout when looking at the console (Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () – ).

Activating and deactivating plugins one-by-one works though. Also creating and updating an order is possible via the app, but not inside the backend.

I looked up if there was any malware on my site.. nothing! The Website is clean. Just not… working.

unfortunately… this one was temporary. It worked for about 3 hours, some orders got in and then…. boom. back to the good ol’ infinite loading. I tried the same but it did not work again. Even tried putting WooCommerce back one version with Rollback before… not a chance.

It seems to me that there is a plugin (seemingly not WooCommerce) that DELETES a file leading to the infinite spinning circle.

EDIT: Unfortunately it had nothing to do with Jetpack (the plugin). I uninstalled it, tried everything again (including reinstalling WordPress and deleting and reinstalling WooCommerce)… nothing. Reinstalled Jetpack.

The bad thing: Today another error has added to the existing one: I am no longer able to put in orders manually. The add-order-page itself works, I can put in the information of the customer as well as the order status etc. but as soon as I want to add a product, there is… an infinite loading spinner. Yesterday and the days before it was possible to create an order. What happened? :/

IT. IS. SOLVED. ??

I just solved the issue by reinstalling WordPress from the dashboard. It seems there were some problems in the core files and this just silently reinstalled them.

I am crying in joy, but also hate that I didn’t try it sooner!

For anyone reading this having the same problem: Make sure you have a backup of everything on your site before performing the reinstallation. You are most likely not going to need it, only if sth goes wrong. Then go to Dashboard > Updates and click on “reinstall version x.x.x-xx_XX” (“X” being a placeholder for numbers and country).

Also, the XHR still has the problem to load the resource. I looked further into it and it seems to be a problem in “query.min.js.3629” with this code:

Thank you for your help.

I just completely deinstalled and deleted the WooCommerce-plugin and then reinstalled it. Even though I did the conflict test two days ago, I repeated it just now and… nothing! No change at all!

At the moment only WooCommerce (the newly installed version) is active, with no additional plugins. My Site runs on the Storefront theme and still the checkout is not available. Is there anything I am missing?

There is one console failure when loading the site, the same as last time: “Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () (“https://brixxyshop.com/?wc-ajax=update_order_review”)

I also went over all the tips given on the Woo documentation-site.

1. the system status shows everything is fine. So no deeper problem noticed here
2. The two URLs match, no differences
3. when looking at the XHR when at checkout, there is a failure to load the Ressource. Instead of HTML or JS it just shows “Beim Laden der Ressource ist ein Fehler aufgetreten” (An error occurred while loading the resource) in big red letters
4. The console goes more into detail, stating: “[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 () (brixxyshop.com, line 0 – https://brixxyshop.com/?wc-ajax=update_order_review)”
5. Also, a second detail stated: “[Warning] Missing data from PHP (wpNotesArgs). (admin-bar-v2.js, line 1)”

Might you (or someone) be able to explain what that means exactly? I searched the web and wasn’t able to find something as of now.

What I tried so far (and didn’t work):

• Switched completely to storefront (site looks ugly now, but surprisingly not that different to what I had before… maybe I should rethink my design choices)
• Deactivated all plugins except for Woocommerce and CacheEnabler (Had to clear the cache somehow)
• deactivated PayPal, so only bank transfer was possible and shown at checkout
• Cleared the Cache of Site and Website

Unfortunately, as stated before: the issue remains. There is, even with the new theme and zero additional plugins, still the same problem.

I will now go back to my old theme.

I read on Magdis topic, that maybe reinstalling WordPress from the ground might be a good idea. When I go to Dashboard > Updates, there is a button that states “Version 3.4.3-de_DE erneut installieren” (reinstall version 3.4.3-de_DE). Is that the right one? And is there anything I have to pay attention to? Or just wait and let it do its thing? Have only updated WordPress once and am just a little scared of doing so still ??

Unfortunately, neither the suggestions on the website nor switching off the plugins worked…

What I tried so far:

• deactivate EVERY plugin except for WooCommerce (no change, still the loading circle)
• clear cache and site cache (I usually do this very time I change sth, so I also did it when troubleshooting before I wrote here; also no change unfortunately)
• Tried the Live-Preview of other themes such as “Twenty-Twenty-Four” and “Twenty-Nineteen”, the last one I could test with the cart and the circle was still there! So it might be neither a plugin nor a theme? Is that even possible? Or is the Live-Preview not as accurate and I should activate the theme completely?
• Tried looking into the “storefront” theme. Unfortunately when clicking on “Live-Preview” for this theme, my website crashes, so I was naturally a little cautious and did not activate the theme yet.
• rollback woo commerce to up to five versions prior, no change.

Unfortunately I have no idea where to search for what now. Is there anything I’ve missed?
