Hi Thomas,
Thanks for getting back to me.
The behavior is different on different posts. For example, look at these two similar posts.
On this one, the Amazon ad appears:
https://www.coffeecrossroads.com/coffee-and-the-arts/books-literature/honey-roasted-by-cleo-coyle-coffeehouse-mystery-19On this one, it doesn’t (although it appeared previously):
https://www.coffeecrossroads.com/coffee-and-the-arts/books-literature/brew-kill-cleo-coyle-coffeehouse-mystery-11The code looks the same to me, but maybe I’m missing something.
I also have another website, brianlokker.com, where I’m encountering the same issue. It’s a new site with only a very few posts and two Amazon ads so far. But the ad on one post (the Graham Green book review) is displayed and the ad on the other (the Sam Patch profile) is not.
Hopefully, you can identify what is causing the issue. Thank you.
Brian
Unfortunately, I seem to have spoken too soon. The ad display is hit-or-miss. They display on some posts but not on others. I’ve tried updating the ads or substituting a new ad, but nothing works.
I’ve had ads on just about all of my posts in the “books” category and on numerous others too. I haven’t been able to analyze why some display successfully and others don’t. To me, it just seems random.
Brian
Most or all of my ads are now showing again. I’m not sure why, but the issue seems to be resolved.

In reply to: [Simple Ads Manager] Ad rotation not workingMy hosting company looked into the suggestion of excluding the two files from caching but concluded that it wouldn’t work. Specifically, they told me that the sam-ajax files “appear to be POST requests, which by nature aren’t generally cached.” Since the JavaScript mode results in slow loading, I’m still looking for another solution.

In reply to: [Simple Ads Manager] Ad rotation not workingI set the plugin to Caching Compatible (Javascript) mode and the rotation now does seem to work, but the loading times are very slow. Are there any tweaks that would speed up the load times?
Meanwhile, I am contacting my hosting company about the possibility of excluding the two files you mention from the caching.

In reply to: [Simple Ads Manager] Ad rotation not workingI don’t use a caching plugin. This site is hosted on managed WordPress hosting, which includes “built-in” caching. I do have the ability to manually flush the cache, which I’ve done, but that hasn’t helped.
Also, the ad rotation was previously working on this site with this hosting configuration.

In reply to: [Simple Ads Manager] Ad rotation not workingMinimus, thank you for your response. I didn’t realize that each slot in the Ads Block should display a separate Ads Place, but now that you’ve clarified that, it makes complete sense.
I made that change, and I also updated the plugin to version 2.1.77.
However, the rotation feature is still not working for me. It’s not just the Ads Block that’s giving me problems; rotation also isn’t working in the other two Ads Places that I’m using on my site (a leaderboard and a medium rectangle at the top of the sidebar). It appears to me that whichever ad is the one that’s listed first in an Ads Place is the only one that displays, unless there is a specific instruction for a different ad to display on a different page.
For example, I now have three ads in one of the Ads Block slots. Each of them is set for maximal activity, in rotation on all pages. However, when I look at the statistics for that Ads Place, all of the hits have been on one ad – the first one listed. And when I check various pages on the site myself, the only ad I see in that slot is the one that is getting all the hits.
I checked for conflicts with other plugins and came up empty. So I’m not sure what else to do.

In reply to: Individual posts and pages getting "too many redirects" errorKeith, thanks. I’ve tried disabling the Pinterest plugin but that had no effect. I’ve also tried disabling most of the rest, again without any effect.
(I’m new to WordPress. I’m hesitant to disable the Yoast SEO plugin because I’m worried I’ll lose all the SEO settings for all of my pages. Will that happen?)
I see that things are loading slowly in general, which is a problem. But I don’t understand why some pages (e.g., categories) do load (slowly), whereas the individual posts and pages do not load at all and serve up the redirect error message. Wouldn’t that have something to do with the redirect instructions in the .htaccess file, rather than the javascript errors, since presumably those would interfere with all pages? As I mentioned in my original post, I seem to have two .htaccess files. Would that somehow create a conflict and a redirect loop? If so, which one do I get rid of?
The problem occurred when I published the post “Coffee Roasts from Light to Dark” in the Coffee 101 category. I edited it online for a considerable amount of time, off and on, before publishing it. There was never a problem with viewing the post before it was published, or with accessing any other post or page on the site until that one was published. That’s why I’m thinking it has something to do with the fact that I edited the category (which pre-existed with a different name), right before I published the post.
I’m sorry to be such a newbie with this. This is my first WordPress site and I really love working with it, but clearly there are some things about it that I don’t yet understand. Thanks for your help.
Brian
Paul, I am new to this plugin and have just been testing it (for audio only), but I was experiencing exactly the same problem. I discovered that I had a typo in Audio Settings > Default Type. I corrected it to audio/mp3 and the player is now working great. I don’t know if this will help you — for one thing, I am not using Sermon Browser — but I thought I’d share my experience.
Jason,
I added widget support for shortcodes, and the plugin now works great in my custom sidebar widget. Thanks again.
Jason,
Thanks for such a quick response. I am new to WordPress and I wasn’t aware of the issue of shortcode support for widgets. I’ll look into it further and post again if I can’t resolve it. Thanks!
The plugin seems to work great in a regular post or page, but not in a text widget. Is there a way to make that work?
